Fast bowlers are not all the same. Some were not genuinely quick when they were 16, 17 and 18. They gained pace in their late teens or early twenties.

like? doh call ambrose because he debuted at 25, which is approaching the peak physical age of a paceman. walsh was 22 when he debuted, was very quick and broke keppler wessels arm in that same debut series.

I like Pitman as well from the little I’ve seen of him.

@velo

very suprised he was picked before phillips

I am surprised, also, maybe he has better data than Phillips' experience.

Malcolm Marshall did not start his Test career as a genuine fast bowler.

maco was very quick when he started homes. in fact if you read fire in Babylon, Mark Nicholas said at Hampshire that was all he came to the club with: pace and that nobody thought at the club he'd last long with that alone as the late 70s and early 80s was littered with genuinely quick bowlers like the four horsemen, garth leroux, imran, thomson, bob willis etc. he also noted that by 1982, Maco was extraordinarily skillful

What happened to the data?
Someone needs to put a stop to this nonsense.
Tage was dropped, played a few matches in the last regional, and what data was used to select him?
Athanaze was dropped also.
I don't know anything about Lane, but he is a green as it comes. Why was he in the X1? His data chart must have been outstanding.
A player like Josh is being discriminated against.
He was among the leading run scorers and a former Vice captain, not only is the role taken away, but it was given to a player who has never captain of a team.
I have a beef with Shallow and his Windward Island Posse.

If my memory serves me well, Marshall started Test cricket under Kallicharran. Lloyd and the Board were embroiled in a dispute and we sent a Second team to India. Back then Marshall certainly wasn't known for his raw pace as that came later.

Sometimes it's not a bad thing for young fast bowlers to lack frightening speed. It may force them to think instead of just trying to blast batsmen out with sheer pace. For example, Jayden Seales is our best fast bowler even though he's not the quickest.

Michael Holding says something totally different homes
