SIP Jimmy Cliff.

My dad ( who also moved on...many years ago) was huge fan...and I inherited the love for Jimmy's music. I remember 33 1/3 LPs and 8-tracks from Jimmy before I turned 10.

RIP man from Somerton, St. James.

Been a Jimmy Cliff fan since I first heard those early 60s hits, "Hurricane Hattie" in 1961, "Miss Jamaica" and "One-eyed Jack"in 1962 and "lion Says" in 1963. There was something about those Jimmy Cliff posters from the 60s and 70s, you could never walk by a record shop and not get drawn to these posters. At this time I only know of only two persons who were at the infancy of Jamaican popular music and are still with us. They are Derrick Morgan and Eric "Monty" Morris and maybe Stranger Cole although he came a little later.

I will never forget the first time I saw Jimmy on tv. He was on a JIs show hosted by Carey Robinson in 1964, with Stranger Cole. I remember him saying at the time that he was 23 and Stranger saying he was 21.

You know, shortly after the elections I heard a caller say on Andre Stevens' show that he felt like a dark cloud had come over the nation, and he had the feeling that some bad things were going to happen. Certainly we have had a big dose of bad news recently. .

Bob Dylan said "Vietnam" was the best protest song he ever heard...am listening to it now on Spotify

Walk Good Jimmy. Most of last week listened concerts and recordings while driving. A Jamaican Icon that I have been privileged to watch live many times. "Sitting In Limbo" is my fav Jimmy song and favorite part of the movie too. "Swim Ivan Swim!." Many Rivers to Cross my favorite live rendition. A great One has "stepped aside"

@Brerzerk

Saw him live about 15 years ago in Grenada. Maybe even more than 15 years. Tessane Chin was doing back vocals for him then. Dean Frazier was also part of the touring party.

Nothing beats an outdoor live reggae concert in good weather.

@Chrissy

I am saddened. Very much so. The Best of us seem to be leaving us quite

often. Was touched by his musical career and as an actor in the movie

The harder they Come which placed Jamaica in a a huge limelight internationally.

I had a blink of an eye moment in that movie in the scene shot at the Gleaner' Sports

Desk with Adrian Robinson as the Editor and C. Roy Reynolds handing him the photograph

of the character Cliff played,Ivan brandishing his outlaw self. I am the one in the background

focussed and editing a script.

It was I who got the envelope with the pic and relayed it to Adrian via C Roy but the edit

took that scene out...I guess only Braddy ,my fellow St.Mary man remains from the wonderful

team of actors.

Jimmy did so much for the country and was exemplary as an Icon.

He will never be forgotten.
