Smith:
If you bat well, you get a chance to manipulate the game. Hopefully we can bowl well. (On Cummins) He was close, he's done everything right. It would have been slightly risky this game. (Inglis' batting position) He'll be batting in the middle-order. Neser is in for Lyon. With the pink ball, it's going to offer a bit more under lights. We've done well in the past, it's a new game. It's going to be a great atmosphere.

Stokes:
We are gonna have a bat. Different conditions here. We've had extra time to build up for this game. I'm not sure (how the wicket is going to play).

Welcome back to the Gabba for Day 2 of this Ashes Test! The game is perfectly setup after a thrilling opening day where momentum swung back and forth right from the first session. Australia will be eager to finish things off quickly by taking that last wicket, especially with the pink ball still lurking as a real threat. England, though, will take heart from the composure shown by Joe Root, hoping they can push further and lay down a strong platform. The pitch should quicken up as the day goes on, and that tricky twilight period under lights could once again play a huge role later today. All in all, we’re gearing up for another cracking day of Ashes cricket here at the Gabba! Start of play isn’t far away..

Lovely sunny start to the game on Day 2. The Aussies stride out in hope of quickly wrapping this up. No doubt that Archer is going to swing his bat around.

Doggett to Jofra Archer, out Caught by Labuschagne!! Marnus, the man! This was a flat hit from Archer. Marnus at deep backward square leg had to move right, dive full length. He went with two hands and he managed to pluck it inches off the ground with his right hand. Doggett finally gets into the wickets columns. Short delivery on the leg stump, Archer went to send it to the fence. That ball never looked like carrying to the fielder but Marnus made it possible with his brilliance.

edgeddd and put down! Length delivery angling in at 143kph and nipping away with bounce. Head was never comfortable with the away-going ball and was always just fending and poking at it hopping around in the crease. He gets opened up again and the ball flies off a thick outside edge. Jamie Smith reacted a bit late to the left and it was flying to the left. Got both hands to it but it deflected it between first and second slip. Jofra Archer couldn't believe that it had been dropped

Head, out Caught by Atkinson!! After bowling a couple of loose overs, Brydon Carse storms back in style. He gets the big fish. Head was dropped earlier by Smith and the England keeper will breathe a sigh of relief, now that the opener is gone. Brydon Carse pitches it up and Head looks to flick it away. The bat twists in his hands as he ends up getting it off the cue end towards mid-on. Atkinson stationed there back-pedals and holds on a to a pretty safe reverse-cup catch. With the opening partnership borken, England will somewhat look to control Australia's run rate now. Head c Atkinson b Brydon Carse 33
