That Hope should retire from test cricket because of this
I did mention last week on this MB
Did you think that Sarwan should retire because of a similar issue.
Hope just needs to temper his arrogance.
Stop the happy hooker/puller attitude.
These bowlers are military medium,
He just started his innings and pulling straight away.
That's where a good batting coach and headcoach come in.
@TanteMerle
Sarwan was worst, but he did not have alternative to test cricket, Hope do, also it is obvious Hope is playing test cricket reluctantly
@TanteMerle
Being a compulsive hooker does not mean you have a problem with the short ball. Ian Chappell was a compulsive hooker and only a drunk blind and deaf man would argue he had an issue against the rising ball. Sarwan was a compulsive hooker as well but his first test innings is 90 not out versus Wasim and Waqar. What separates hope from those two is that his dismissal’s come not only from hooking, they come from playing far from the body, from trying, and failing to ride the bounce and getting caught at silly point……and that he is as likely to be out to the short ball on 0 as he is on 80. Both Lara and Gregg Chappell were weak against the short ball early in their innings. You couldn’t get them out with that delivery after 60 though. Sarwan also had two hundreds in very bowler friendly conditions in 2004 against very potent South African and English attacks. You don’t score hundreds against ntini, harmison, flintoff, Simon jones and Andre nel not being able to manage the short ball in their home conditions. It’s simply impossible
@bird
Kinda nick pucovski vybz but at least he doesn’t get hit. It’s an issue of playing the short ball, not being hit by one. Maybe hope needs to go by Sir Gary Sobers to get some technical tips on how to fix this thing. That’s what Lara did on the verge of the Sri Lanka tour in 2001 and we know how well that series went for him. Sobers, in addition to making a bus load of runs, clearly didn’t have many technical weaknesses and better yet, he can diagnose and articulate what is wrong so that it’s easier to fix
@TanteMerle
Hope needs to take some cues from Hodge over how to deal with the short ball.
Don't push too far forward. Rock back, and then you have a little more time to control your hook shot.
@mikesiva
Do not regurgitate what that stupid female commentator said.
Hope is going after the shortballs very arrogantly.
I did not watch last night play, but saw a highlight reel on YouTube
King ducking with the bat in the air.
Batsmen pooking bad balls for singles.
Hodge looked very poor during his first 20-30 runs.
Chase is batting white ball style with poor footwork.
Athanaze needs a batting camp.
I can go on and on.
Hope is a class above the rest
However, he is overconfident.
He needs to duck and sway away from shortballs.
When he gets a good sighter pull down, or use a full-blooded pull out of the ground.
I played cricket at a lower level.
But the bowling that I faced was relative to my skills.
I dare bowlers to bounce at me.
Like any other batsman, I got struck, actually in my mouth and forehead in one innings.
In that innings, I made an unbeaten half-century and won the game.
The ball to my mouth was a beamer that I gloved, as I loss it in the air.
The next ball went about 100 yards from a hook, as I challenged the bowler to bounce again.
When I saw him delivered late, I knew it was short and walked across on a one leg hop.
That 6 was followed by a straight back pass the bowler drive with me holding the pose,
as like they say, "not a man move".
I faced some really quick bowlers, and I learned to duck, sway out the way etc.
However if I get a good sight on a short ball, I went for broke.
Full-blooded pull, hook, or cut shots, depending on line.
Any batsman from Barbados should know how to pull, cut, hook and or sway out of the way.
