Ok, Voicey...here goes my rebuttal...
TnT is also the major beneficiary of a trade surplus of 1.1 billion with Caricon countries. I guess tha thought never crossed your mind? Their 2nd largest trading partners after the US. This does not include the many companies that TNT companies have purchased throughout the Caribbean inclusive of Banking institutions eg. Republic Bank and the many individuals who ply their trade in the other islands and send home remittances.
T&T and other Caribbean islands participated in the Treaty of Charaguamas. T&T didn't hold a gun to force such success; it was great business acumen. So now we are bad.
When your calypso recordings sell, don't you get remittance after winning the Calypso crown in Tortola?
If not, I should be your manager. 😂
The Jamaican referendum to join the Federation failed because of that fear. Then there was the demand that the central government be based in Trinidad and Tobago. Once Jamaica pulled out, Sir Eric Williams decided that 1-10 equals 0 and disbanded the Federation
Jamaica and Guyana were hesitant to support your "lil dots" economies. "One of the major failures of the Federation. Once Jamaica pulled out, everything crashed.
The real question is does the TNT Government pay them the same wages as their own medical personnel.
The T&T government deals directly with the Cuban government on wages for its personnel in T&T. Cuba pays its doctors up to $3500.00 T&T per month. Cuba keeps 75% to 95% of its citizens' wages in T&T.
T&T doctors are paid from $10,000 to over $50,000 per month.
Cuban doctors and nurses et al. live in compounds and are not allowed to travel in Trinidad. They are monitored by Cuban security... so freedom doesn't exist.
99% of Cubans don't have access to its tourist sites; it's forbidden. Tourists are taken by bus to locations approved by the Cuban government. Cuban citizens do not experience freedom.
You forgot to mention the many who go to Cuba seeking medical care and education.
I have no idea about the above comment.
If TNT is such a successful economy for most then why the rampant crime? Why do so many like yourself seek jobs overseas? Capitalism at work.
Asking such questions shows you know little about T&T.
Successful economies don't hinder crime. If the 10% controls the economy, such will exist.
Eric Williams gave the Syrians and Lebanese favourable terms to open businesses; he ignored the Africans and kept them in poverty. When revolts occurred in Black Power marches, he sent the police to arrest them. He called the Indians a "recalcitrant minority" after he lost the election in 1958.
Such criminal elements were hatched during the days of Eric Williams. His voting strongholds, Sealots, Beetham, Morvant, Laventille, and La Brea, still today lack basic amenities. Compounded by a decade of the same political party led by Rowley.
"Poverty is the mother of crime." ...Some of these communities eke out a living scouring garbage dumps.
T&T's economy was left on life support by those in opposition today. Such opposition suffered massive defeats in Tobago and T&T's general election.
Why do so many like yourself seek jobs overseas? Capitalism at work.
My grandfather left T&T for Canada in 1958, opened up a business in Toronto, and then later in Montreal.
I would join the family and go and complete my education in Canada, the USA, and England. As a chemical engineering graduate, I saw a niche in North America and made a subsidiary of my grandfather's company into a private engineering company. Today, we work closely with companies such as Exxon, ExxonMobil,
Bechtel, Fluor, WSP Global, Aecon et al., and numerous universities.
See, just as you are doing as a magnate in Tortola's entertainment industry. 😂
