For those of us who live in winter months the new golf season is here.

I'm finally going to replace some of my old gear with some new tech. Going to get a fitting for new irons. The old Titleist AP2 710 irons are finally going to be retired. The were really great irons but they are 15 years old now and I need something more forgiving with more height and newer tech.

So far the main candidates for replacing them are: Mizuno JPX 925 Hot Metal; Ping G730 or i240; or Cobra 3DP X irons.

The 5 iron will go the way of the Dodo to be replaced with a hybrid so it will be a 6-PW set.

Any of you guys getting new gear this year?

@SnoopDog

Had my clubs replaced 2 years ago...ended up with Taylor Made driver/woods and Callaway irons. I hope you got fitted with those new clubs. Good luck!

@SnoopDog

I plan on getting a new set in year or so. I currently play with a Callaway set but it’s almost 10 years old. My buddy raves about the new Callaway Quantum irons. He got fitted and they were recommended based on various factors.

Yes, I got a new bag for Christmas. Its still in the box so now I am thinking about some clubs but it wont be any fitted clubs or anything that expensive like what I see Snoop mentioning above. More than likely it will be one of those sets at a golf show or those temporary golf sale setup that comes around every couple of months. Maybe one day I will be brave enough to get fitted clubs but cant justify that amount of money at this time.

I've been thinking about a new set for 2 seasons now.

Last year I had my first golf outing as in 3 days of golf and 4 games back to back at 4 different courses.

My set is more than 10 years old and if I'm going to keep playing in these outings, I have to get some updated gears.

I am yet to do any research, but I will soon.

Father's day coming up... so there is an opportunity. haha

@Titleist

I came across the Callaway Quantums when I was looking into new clubs. But didn't like the look of them as compared to the Mizuno, Ping and Cobra stuff. The Cobra irons are 3D printed and they look sweet and super forgiving on mis-hits.

@carl0002

Fittings are not that expensive around here in the GTA. There are lots of fitters around these days and they are always offering promos and discounts. The way I see it is that this new set should last me for 10-15 years so it makes sense to pay for the fitting to ensure the the clubs and shafts are properly set up for my horrible swing.

But there is also nothing wrong with buying off the rack if you know what you want and what works for you. All my woods and hybrids are second hand from Ebay. My 4 hybrid is a Nike which was released all they way back in 2010.

@googs and Funnyman

You can't go wrong with TM drivers Googs. I think they still make the best driver on the market but others like Titleist and Ping have brought out some good stuff recently.

If you guys are looking at the used market then Ebay is the best place for me. There are some sellers in Japan who offer really good clubs at very decent pricing and free shipping. The only wrinkle now is that you may have to pay the Dotard's tariffs/duties.

I have my fitting at the end of the month and I'll let you guys know which set I end up getting. I'm keeping my old set as the back-up and for nostalgia.

By the way guys, an observation about hitting balls in the indoor simulators vs hitting balls outdoor.

For those of us who live in the frozen north the indoor sims have been heaven sent. We still get to hit balls and see how awful our shots are in the comfort of our t-shirts during the winter months.

But for me the moment I go back outdoors it's a different world altogether. All of a sudden you have to the wind and the sun to contend with, the ball looks different, the club looks different behind the ball, and the same swing that worked and looked great in the sim now sucks etc. 😄

Here's a nice review of the Cobra 3D printed irons.

Looks really impressive.

@SnoopDog

Yes, there’s a big difference between hitting balls off a mat vs turf. Always better off grass, especially with the irons.

I did the indoors thing at least 2 times. While it's somewhat fun, it's obviously not accurate, too expensive and way too quick (duration).

I rather go to Top Golf, get ripped off while eating some wings, getting twisted and having some fun with my crew there.

However, the only thing that beats going and having a "bad" game on the course is a decent game on the course. lol

All that said... went and got some used clubs for my son over the weekend and he will have a few "pro" lessons before I take him to a Pitch n Putt course this Summer.
