At the end of the day WI cricket is who helped to groom him and gave him the platform to exhibit his goods. All good maximising your earning potential but he could have balanced it playing for WI. Anyways we don't need him as he is overrated.
Broken Asset to T20 King: The Nicholas Pooran Comeback CWI Didn't Want
In January 2015, when that nasty car crash in Trinidad leave a 19-year-old Nicholas Pooran with two mash-up legs and a shattered ankle, doctors talk plain. They say the boy might never walk normal again, much less stand up in a crease.
But you know how Trini story does go. The real cut-eye didn’t come from the hospital. It come straight from the big-shot suits up in Cricket West Indies (CWI).
When ‘Nicky P’ need his board the most, CWI act like they never knew him. No proper rehab money, no backing, nothing. They just leave the youth to fend for himself. Instead of helping him heal, they choke him with red tape and medical clearance mamaguy, locking him clean out of the Trinidad & Tobago setup. To them high-and-mighty board people, a teenager with broken legs wasn't a world-class talent, he was just a liability to cross off the book.
But where the board see a broken asset, a big man from the local soil see a little brother.
Enter : Kieron Pollard
With CWI missing in action, Kieron Pollard step up to the plate. ‘Polly’ had just fight back from his own bad knee injury, and he refuse to watch Pooran talent waste away. He didn’t just give the boy old talk; he take over the whole rehabilitation.
Even when Pollard was halfway across the world playing IPL, his eye was right down in Trinidad. He set up a strict WhatsApp group with physical trainer Donald Gulston. From thousands of miles away, Polly checking every video, tracking every single weight lifted, and cussing Pooran out of the dark hole of depression. Polly play father, big brother, and drill sergeant all in one. He invest the time and hope that CWI couldn’t bother to find.
The Team That Put He Back on His Feet
Down in the trenches, Donald Gulston hold it down, putting Pooran through a grueling rehab to build back his legs from scratch. When CWI gatekeepers try to block him from domestic cricket, T&T assistant coach Kelvin Williams stand up for the youth.
Then came Phil Simmons. The former West Indies coach see the total unfairness of how CWI treated Poo.
The Ultimate Vindication
Make no mistake: Nicholas Pooran comeback is not a success story for West Indies cricket development. This is a triumph in spite of them.
Today, Nicky P is one of the most lethal, high-priced T20 batsmen on the planet. Every time he launch a ball into orbit with that sweet, effortless swing, he showing CWI exactly what they did try to throw away. He didn’t make it back because of any board program. He make it back because of his own stubborn belly, a faithful trainer, a coach who care, and a legendary mentor named Kieron Pollard who refuse to let a star die in the dark.
He owes Fcking CWI nothing...so Hahahahaha
