West Indies send 16-member squad on development tour of Sri Lanka

Tue, Jun 2, '26 at 12:50 PM

Cricket West Indies has confirmed the departure of a 16-member West Indies Academy squad for a reciprocal tour of Sri Lanka from June 3–27, 2026.

The Caribbean side will face Sri Lanka Emerging Players in a multi-format series consisting of two four-day and three 50-over matches.

This follows the Sri Lanka Emerging Team's visit to Antigua in 2025, when the sides competed in a similar multi-format series. The red-ball contest ended one game apiece, while the Academy came out 2-1 winners in the ODIs.

interesting that Jewel Andrew is not in this squad. Is it that CWI considers him to be a complete player already? Similarly, Ackeem Auguste would probably have benefitted more from being in this team than playing ODI cricket internationally where he will definitely be out of his depth

I agree, another name that could have been on that list is Wickham. He should not be in the Test squad as yet, look what happened to Andersen, he got promote too early now he has lost his form and confidence. Nathan Edward should work hard on his batting, at his height and speed it will be a challenge to make it as a bowler

I agree. There is no reason why Wickham is not in a developmental squad, unless the thinking is that because Bim now picks him regularly, he is now developed. I was asking about any right arm offies, an increasingly rare breed in the West Indies. What about Junior Sinclair from Guyana. didnt he show some promise as a young offie? He is certainly not a regular pick for Guyana and so should classify as a developmental player. As the best bowlers hunt in pairs, WI should be looking for a pairing for Motara if he is considered as a serious leggie option and what is better than a leggie and an offie operating in tandem?

Doesn’t matter who they pick we will never be satisfied and always want another person

What about Kevin Sinclair? He would be the natural choice no?

Although I seem to remember posters like anthonyp saying they thought Junior Sinclair was the better bowler.

The region has a proliferation of slow left arm orthodox bowlers. The trouble with that is that there’s hardly any variety.

Bryan Charles seemed to have some promise some time ago but seems to have fallen away.

Maybe the best offie in the region is still Rakheem Cornwall……but he has bigger issues.

I suggested Junior rather than Kevin as he is probably more a "developmental" player than a man who has played test cricket. I hope that the same way that Keemo was reintegrated into the H Eagles, Kevin could also find his way back as he is clearly a talented player as well.
