Kingston and Washington are beginning talks on an agreement first pitched by a senior Jamaican government official, which could see Jamaica accepting up to 10,000 non-Jamaicans who are being deported from the United States. The operational framework for this proposed Third-Country Nationals agreement was outlined in a document from the U.S. Embassy in Jamaica, sparking controversy similar to arrangements Washington has made with other nations. [1]

These negotiations follow a broader push by the U.S. government to secure third-country deportation and asylum deals with various global partners to manage increased migration flows.

Latest news reporting that allegedly Jamaica's non-immigrant visa holders were threatened by US, so Jamaica considering to accept Non-Jamaican deportees from USA.

Inna plain Jamaican lingo, “Dem licky licky”. I hope that there will be a nonpartisan committee to oversee the little US Blood and Tears money, in exchange of desperate migrants.

According to one unamused Yardie:

”Why not send these people to their birth country? Cut that country a deal. Do you know what these people are capable of doing ? Father, please have mercy upon us”

@Slipfeeler

According to some legal technicality when these people are deported to a country that is not their birth country, they cannot reapply for re-entry to America any time soon.

@dayne

So why facilitate and enable US in their anti-migrant shenanigans? Holness looking to befriend US, let him know that Kamla already have that covered. I can just imagine Queen Mia thinking that Jamaica has lost its way.

Nationwide News understands that the threat of random Jamaican citizens having their non-immigrant visas revoked by US authorities gave impetus to the decision by the Holness administration to agree to action a plan with its counterpart in Washington to accommodate so-called Third Country Nationals seeking to transit to another country via Kingston.

This threat of wide-scale visa revocations was mooted by at least two US government officials.

@Slipfeeler

Small economies like Jamaica, that was just critically damaged by a Cat 5 hurricane recently, are between a rock and a hard place when faced with the World Bully.

@Slipfeeler

Makes sense, but logistics doesn't. Basically a one stop shop thing for US. Too much money to send them to individual counries.

@Slipfeeler

So why facilitate and enable US in their anti-migrant shenanigans?

Why not facilitate and enable an ally nation to uphold its rule of law?

If Jamaica is so pro-migrant, shouldn't she be happy and willing to accept these migrants? Whether the migrants are happy and willing to go to Jamaica is another matter.

@KTom

Uncle Tom, sorry I meant KTom, no country wants to willingly be considered as a dumping ground for US immigration, unless they are seeking significant compensation. In the matter regarding willingness to visit a Jamaica, I am willing to put it to test, as to how many non-Caribbean persons would prefer to visit Jamaica or your country? Already Jamaica receives over 4.5 million visitors each year, can your country beat that? 😀
