Didn't Sammy's statement precede the CWI selection announcement?

Didn't Sammy as Head Coach not provide CWI with the list of selectees and hence the reason for Alzarri's absence from the list?

When did Alzarri speak with CWI?. Is it before the team was selected?

Where in the world does a cricket board give a player leave of absence without consulting team mgt?

This has become a circus.

Professionals and professional organisations don't attempt to resolve matters like these in this manner.

CWI should have gotten on top of this issue from very early.

There are two issues:

Was there any medical management plan for Alzarri?

Did Sammy know of the medical mgt plan for Alzarri?

If he did, and I stress IF HE DID, then he was wrong to make the initial statement.

Alzarri on the other hand was wrong to post a cryotic message on Instagram and further inflammed the matter with his an interview with the Antigua and Barbuda Observor.

But essentially, once the matter was made public, CWI thru its Director of Cricket, should have stepped in and read the riot act to both prties. This is a profound failure of leadership on the part of CWI.

It is technically, procedurally and intellectually school boyish to say the least.

This is embarassing and I shall have no further comment on this fiasco.

If the official statement from CWI states "personal reason", how can the coach state that Joseph declined selection?

I think that internally CWI should reprimand the coach for contradicting their report and causing damage to Joseph's reputation. This is after the players has just returned after being out for one year with back injury. Sammy should stick to coaching.

Separate the management and duties of the coach.

Ajo is an integral part of this fast bowler setup.

Sammy needs to correct this wrong.

His choice of words, for lack of better word, was poor.

As head coach you must at all times be aware of the weight of your spoken words to the public especially as it relates to a member of the team.

The game is as much psychological as physical. A fall is one impacts the entire thing. As coach you Sir must be always cognizant of this

I don’t understand what it is exactly that Alzari did wrong here.

He didn’t release a statement saying he declined WI selection with his head coach essentially throwing him under the bus.

In addressing the resulting backlash he’s received from Sammy’s comments, he’s merely given his reasons. Saying Sammy’s statement was unfortunate is not being rude or disrespectful. Nothing in his subsequent comments can be deemed to be controversial or demeaning to his team or management.

Seems to me he’s being criticized for being Alzari Joseph rather than anything he’s said or done in this instance.

Head coach Sammy, started this mess with his statement/comment, apparently upset with Joseph's decision.

He knew exactly, as Joseph said, what would happen in the court of public opinion, as you can see by CC's anti-Joseph commenters.

When he is desrespectful I expect him to be dealt with accordingly, as should any of the players, however, Despite all of his faults, this bowler has shown to be dedicated to WI cricket in all formats.

......And notice, he did not say, St. Kitts or Antigua, he did not say Leeward islands, He said I am there to represent the people of the West Indies.

Man said don't throw me under the bus, and expect me to just get run over.

Anyways, I trust that CWI will resolve this matter amicably . They got this.

Dysfunction and CWI seem to go hand in hand. West Indies have a chance to win back to back Test series for the first time in a long time. However, this episode has taken centre stage. CWI should focus more on cricket and focus less on drama.

I am still waiting for more info before I blame either party.

One thing is for certain, some mediation is necessary. Caribbean people need to learn how to take a young player away from bad circumstances and then return him a more mature professional.

Look at players like Warne, Pointing and Simmonds. They had to leave the Australian team for short intervals but came back stronger. Unfortunately we don't have a similar history of allowing players time to regroup. We only drop and say they can't play for West Indies again. Always remember our coaches and players are human.
