In reply to Admin But you and I know that the spokesman for the Jamaican Police, Shields, never said that. He deliberately used the word 'suspicious'.

So you think the police just called a press conference at almost midnight to simply announce that Woolmer's death is "suspicious?"
Look, Pakistan is supposed to play tomorrow and in all likelihood the team is refusing to play and the news is starting to leak, so the ICC and the Jamaican police are trying to manage the story. In those circumstances what else could "suspicious" mean; especially when the police are obviously not saying all they know?

In reply to Trenchant My friend, at this time, speculation as to the hidden meaning of words used by spokesmen does no one any good. Let us wait until the official results are given before we say that the death is as a result of this or that.

Commie if he was murdered, it wasn't by some random attacker, I am willing to bet on that.
From what I know (maybe yammie can confirm)visitors can't get to the guest room floors of the pegasus without having a keycard, so it wouldn't be so easy for just anybody from on the street to get to his room.
Personally this whole situation is unfortunate (understatement I know) and the worst thing about it is IF, a random attacker killed Woolmer the implication is for security at a World sporting event in Jamaica and by extension in the Caribbean.

No, the show must go on IMO. You can't accede to murderers and criminals (assuming that they are involved).

On another note - are there security cameras in hotels? I know you can't have them in rooms for privacy reasons, but what about hallways?

I have stayed at the Pegasus many times.
Now maybe thats the kind of convo pufftrini was trying to guard against but its relatively easy for someone to go up to a persons room and knock on the door or simply tailgate them into the room.
Having card access can only stop one kind of situation.
We need this story to be confirmed quickly. The Jamaican police should not have had a midnight briefing if all they were going to say is that its looking 'suspicious'.

that may be the case on a normal day but i am sure additional security measures would have been in place for the cwc.

I wonder if it wasn't best for the police/coroner (whoever is the appropriate authority)to just put out a statement saying that the results so far were inconclusive and they were awaiting further tests. And then only hold a press conference when there was more certainty.

"IF" he was murdered, it had to be some one he knew cause with all the security in place and especially after the loss by a Pakistani team, it would be difficult for a stranger to enter his apartment.
