Former West Indies chief selector Mike Findlay has been named manager for the upcoming tour to England.

Findlay, a Vincentian who played in 10 Tests for the regional side in the 1970s, will take control of a management team that includes interim head coach David Moore and assistant coach Hendy Springer.

Makes no difference who is manager, the story will have the same ending.

Sarwan is lucky - appointed for only 1 series. That ought to limit his agony and save him from being completely destroyed.

It really does not matter who they chop and change, who have role and who don't have role. The performances and results of the WI cricket team will not change except maybe to get worse.

WI cricket in its current manifestation is obsolete to these times and should cease to exist.

How is a one-tour captaincy with review effectively any different from probation?

So how dem announcing tings and the WIPA issue with the FTP hasnt been settled yet?

guess they want to see if the team shows cohesion and also put in the necessary effort. I assume success would be measured in terms of discipline, showing determination and performing credibly.

West Indies captains HAVE NEVER been appointed for more than 1 tour at a time.They always are evaluated at the end of a tour so this is a non-statement.

Another rethread. What happen to the young managers that we have e.g The management teams of under19, 15 etc.
We need new blood .We need new ideas. We need a fresh new perspective.
Who is going to disicipline any senior player on tour?
What happens if a player or players say it is too cold to go out and train? What is the penalty for insubordination?
It is stuff like this we want to hear.
For crying out loud the WICB Website still has Australia won the cup and NOTHING about a new captain.
That is what we have at the top. INCOMPETENCE.
We need someone to TAKE CHARGE of the players and someone to take charge of the Admin. Lay the law down from captain to cook NO BS. Screw up and you sitting DOWN or going home. CHOOSE.

If I'm not mistaken (and I may be), WI captains have been appointed for a single series before Sarwan. Based on how they do in that series, then they are subsequently appointed or not for future series. As you know, one WI captain was on probation for a single Test match.

If it is accurate that WI captains in the past have been appointed on a series by series basis, the only difference between those instances and this one is the term "PROBATION". One can even say if a captain is appointed for 1 series, it wouldn't be unreasonable to infer that captain is virtually on probation.

It is characteristic of dishonest, incompetent people. They try to tell everyone that someone else is the reason for their failures (I live in the US and I see it all the time - immigrants are blamed for stagnant wages).

So all of these cricketers' failings are blamed on Lara, WICB, BK and everyone else but them.

Was the position advertised and Findlay appointed following a proper business process? Sigh...I'm guessing not.

In reply to Bootsie Findlay's position is not a permanent one.It is only for this tour.In the past WI managers were appointed on a tour by tour basis and was essentially a job given to ex test players as a recognition of their services rather than anything meaningful.

You better believe that, as we would not want him to replicate picking his Trini countryman who is an opener, and batting him at no. 8. In other words, even Sarwan is NOT THAT DUMB!! Get over it, Lara has faded into the past as a good batsman and a very bad captain! Hopefully we will now have some cohesion in the team.

a dottie revolution is not a bad thing....maybe some players could emerge with some work ethic and brains...my Bajan players (Edwards,Smith) have disappointed me with their lack of work ethic...is time for some other guys.

A small correction- converted opener. He batted anywhere from 1 to 7 before he played under Lara. Indeed he was played as one of the bowlers in one day cricket in U -19 cricket. The falacy being forwarded that batting late in the order was new to him should be ended. Further to that he was selected as a wicketkeeper back-up and would have been expected to bat either as an opener or at 7 or 8 anyway.

I suppose that is why we are unsuccesful since the Team Manager is a ceremonial role rather than an operative role. Trinidad in the last four years are examples of why this role has to be operative. After a successful year the manager was changed which resulted in a dramatic failure and his rapid return. On his return they were successful. His role was and is applauded by players as being valuable in ensuring that the team is ready and mentally able to play cricket. Lord knows we need someone to do this.
