If nothing else, Phil Simmons is better looking than his predecessor – so that removes the adjective “UGLY” from any vituperative arrows slung at him if he fails to transform the WI team into a winning juggernaut…..Ha…Ha..Ha……

Of course before he can transform WI team into a winner – there are a few housekeeping chores he will have to perform:

First in order of difficulty…. he must turn water into wine, then he must display his ability to walk on water, and then cause pigs to fly……….once those are accomplished – the winning thing will be a breeze.

I see Bravo already hinting that he'll come back so I guess he (bravo) feels now that there's a trini coach he has a shot of making the Test squad.

Unfortunately Lloyd and Cameron may have something to do with that – meritocracy is not necessarily ingrained in WI cricket – some people I authority carry grudges

"Ugly" is not just about the looks but the dutty ways and actions of the departed, and unlamented, Coach Uglyman!

"God Don't Like Ugly" and neither, belatedly, did the new WICB, so he did get his comeuppance for his two-faced action and his bullying ways.

To me Otis got a sweet deal...paid to do pretty much nothing towards the end and now he has a gig with cricketers who more likely to listen..in a more professional setup ..and prepared to deal with he fact that feedback..negative or positive is a part of professional life.

You could have stopped right there……..well you could appended ‘useful’, and would be very much in the ballpark of Gibson’s WI coaching accomplishments……..

Gibson can accomplish something with England, mainly because his authority will be limited – he wont be a decision maker, something he proved capable of only making bad ones as WI head coach………..to begin his WI coaching career by marginalizing the senior players was a dumb as it could have gotten – from there it was all down hill……..

You think any coach wouldn't prefer to have more seasoned and his best players available to boost his record as coach???

I like the way you already try to make excuses just in case he does well with the England squad.

Otis did not BEGIN his career by marginalizing anybody. He had enough time to be in camp and series to make an assessment of some of the issues.

Y'all 'experts' just didn't like the assessment...because certain players came out on the wrong end of it all.

Some board member screwed him over by leaking what was supposed to be a confidential report based on what I heard.

All the invective hurled at Otis for saying dat Gayle is not a student of game went on mute for Holding's implication of the same thing.

The funny thing is that..Otis turned out to be right about most things.

Not only is Coach Opiss Uglyman is not only harsh on the eyes but his ugliness is compounded by his vindictive, bad attitude( In case your comprehension was a bit off!).

My frequently stated opinion of him has never wavered, even now that he is thankfully gone!!

And I have never been reticent about stating my opinion about that underhanded, malicious piece of... So there is nothing to 'clean up"!

Your posts on the guy indict you...not him.

The guy was chased by both Durham and Warwickshire over the last few years, was considered a catch for WI when he could have stayed in a more successful setup which he helped get there, and now is back in a good situation.

Considering the history of WI coaches before and after their tenure, Gibson is in fine company and indeed gets credit rather than ridicule from those that matter...ie prospective employers and people who work at the coaching level in the sport.

Good for him,you and the other apologists!

For someone with so many options I am surprised that he has reverted to being a mere bowling coach fro England- the same job he left for bigger & better and thing 5 years ago!

Yuh know I had a similar reaction when I read Spratty's post--he's softened his stance. After viciously attacking the man's physical appearance all this time he started backtracking a bit. In fact, I was waiting for Courtesy to show up with a catalogue of former posts that spoke solely about ugly appearance without ever using the word ugly to refer to acts. Now, after you call him on it, he has predictably, and childishly I might add, doubled down on Coach Uglyman. Can't wait to see his future musings about former President "Double Ugly"

by the way, u look at Jr Bennett lately, the same physical features as Ugly Otis, he is in the exact imagine of Otis, could be his uncle or dada

It "was/did said" that after Gibson took over and tried to improve the overall fitness and discipline of the WI team, a senior player told him they had gotten rid of other coaches before and they would get rid of him as well. There was a senior player revolt of sorts during the 2011 WC and for once the WICB backed the coach instead of the players.
