Should I upgrade?

Arawak and Admin need not respond. I know how you feel about Bill's programme.

What do you use right now?

8? Yes.
7 and you had no desire to go to 8? No.

Yes, especially if on Windows 8

Windows XP was the last "built to last" version of windows.
Windows 7 is not too bad.

Windows 8 was a painful experiment - and windows 10 is supposed to be a return to the basics (with a few hints of the crap of Win 8.1)

I wish MSFT would make sensible decisions but alas they seem unable to.

Metro UI (now Modern UI) was a stroke of genius. It was the best implementation of a mobile UI I have seen out of Android and iOS. Some things they took too long to implement like backgrounds and the notification bar but such is life, especially when you are not Apple. Unfortunately, they faced a hardware and software battle which they lost.

Now what was ever the point of deploying a UI more suited for touch devices on a market (laptops & desktops) dominated by non-touch devices? Common sense would have said to give different strokes to different folks. And to make matters worse Windows 8 is not even fully comfortable on a tablet. Some elements are still difficult to operate with your fingers. Something tells me I will still face this in W10.

But I will take the free upgrade. If for nothing else but to get rid of that new icon in my toolbar crying for me to get Windows 10.

If you do, be aware of many driver issues. Research well first. Perhaps we could keep this thread alive for all Windows users to share their experience.

Won't be many driver issues...

Been using 10 Preview for a good while now...since last year. Haven't really played around much recently as it is not on my main computer and nothing much to really do but follow up on Builds.

Build 10130 just released for "Fast Ring" I believe...just downloaded it. This Build might have all the final new features with up to date fixes and tweaks. The final release might just be like this Build with just additional fixes and tweaks.

10 is a cross between 8.1 and 7...reason for not many issues with drivers...

I won't get into changes and features...google and u will find.

Best if u try it...free for everyone to try.

I see it as fun, prolly temporary, for techies and easier computing for ordinary folks...

Let me know how it works out, I got the notification for Win 10 on my laptop last night (currently on 8.1).

Do you like getting yourself in trouble?

I am in the technology field, I have used windows XP almost until MS stopped supporting it, I am currently on Windows 7. I hate to even touch a windows 8 computer. Windows 10 wont be seeing me anytime soon.

So the bottom line is, if your computer works fine, why do you want to mess with it?

I use Windows 7 on laptop at home. Work has Windows 8 and I made computer guys set it to look like Windows 7. Hate that crap. It's on the Jamaica desktop too. Puke.

But if they listened to the customers and kept some of 7 and the best of 8, then I was thinking it might be worth a try. Wonder if I could test the waters and if I don't like it, go back to 7? Afterall, it's not like marriage init.

As a computer obsessed person who spent too much time building upgrading taking apart and rebuilding computers
I bulid my first using the window 95 OS. The previous 3 best OS were windows 98 2nd edition.
Windows XP (my Favourite) and windows 7.
Windows 8.1 uddates (upgrades}is much better, the start button was return to the taskbar for opening the start screen
and improve encoding was added to protect potential privacy implications
