Breathing new life into T&T’s cocoa sector

Unique genetic diversity

T&T produces some of the world’s highest-grade cocoa beans. “Trinitario is one of the most flavoursome cocoa you can get,” Parasram explains. Bred for disease and pest resilience in the 17th century, Trinitario is a combination of Criollo and Forastero varieties.

These three varieties are used to produce chocolate. Criollo and Trinitario varieties are generally considered high-grade, “fine” or “flavour” beans, and Forastero is considered a lower-grade “ordinary” or “bulk” bean for mass production. The genetic diversity of Trinitario in T&T is second to none. “We have over 100 strains of Trinitario in T&T. The plant’s genetic diversity on the islands is unique,” he observes.

I was saying T&T is in a unique position to capitalize on this and now is the best time more than ever.

The international cocoa market is worth billions annually and our beans are really sought after but under produced, with the right stewardship and facilitation T&T can corner that market, say what you want about T&T and as bad as we may be,T&T knows how to play in big international business and knows how to win.

I also said there's much more to T&T that meets the eye,and we have another sleeping giant in Labrea that keeps giving but also under utilized..

Posted it on another thread inadvertantly...lol

Yes it's time we capitalize on this and now more than ever is the time!

It's a gold mine, that's a multi billion dollar industry right there..

I tell people there's much more to T&T than meets the eye,we can literally corner the international chocolate market with the right moves, and believe or not as bad as we are T&T knows how to do international business and win.

Personally I'm very interested in this program..

There's another sleeping giant in La Brea that keeps giving.....

Annual production has plummeted from 30,000 tonnes of beans a century ago to just 500 tonnes in recent decades.

We need to get that production back up to 30,000 tonnes.

One can get approx $3,000 US per tonne

Money to be made as T&T beans are in demand based on high quality.

Switzerland is renowned for its exceptional chocolate. From all of those prism-shaped Toblerone bars in airport duty free shops across the world to the more local Cailler and Frey varieties, it comes as little surprise that Swiss people consume the most chocolate per capita of any country worldwide. Every year, the average Swiss person eats just under 20 lbs of chocolate. Neighboring Germany is also a nation of chocoholics with annual consumption per capita amounting to 17.4 lbs.

The Irish also have a sweet tooth and they come joint third with the United Kingdom with 16.3 lbs per year. The United States cannot compete with Europe in the chocolate consumption league and it comes in ninth overall - the average American eats about 9.5 lbs of chocolate each year.

Yes there's definitely room for us,and we need to get production up even more than the 30,000...

Would be observing this keenly..

Check this out

Corner the market by purchasing all the cocoa beans

Visit the chocolate producing countries and sell it to the highest bidder

T&T needs good representation for its products.

The clowns in the government are clueless.
