Brathwaite hundred leads Barbados resurgence

PORT OF SPAIN –– Captain Kraigg Brathwaite stroked his ninth first class hundred to dig Barbados Pride out of trouble on the opening day of the first round of matches in the historic WICB Professional Cricket League today.

The right-hander hit an unbeaten 115 as Barbados finished the day against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on 209 for four after being sent in at Queen’s Park Oval.

Brathwaite’s knock came as part of a rescue mission, after Barbados slumped to 85 for four just after lunch, undermined by an incisive spell of fast bowler from Marlon Richards who finished with three for 34.

Mindley stuns Windwards

Teenage fast bowler Marquino Mindley made a dream start to his WICB Four-day Professional League career when he claimed three wickets and made a third best score of 42 on day one of the Jamaica Franchise's opener against the Windwards Volcanoes at Sabina Park yesterday.

The 19-year-old, who earlier this year represented the West Indies at the ICC Youth World Cup, ended with figures of three for seven, as the Windwards, replying to Jamaica's first innings 208, closed the day on 16 for three

Deonarine in sight of 10th first class ton as Jaguars and Leewards battle

FORMER West Indies middle-order batsman Narsingh Deonarine was 27 runs away from his 10th first class ton at the end of the first day of the first round clash between Guyana Jaguars and Leeward Islands Franchise at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first in the West Indies Cricket Board/Professional Cricket League (PCL) 4-day first round fixture after a 15-minute rain delay, the Jaguars reached 230 for 5 off 90 overs, with Deonarine batting for 246 minutes, hitting eight fours from the 191 deliveries he faced.
With Deonarine all-rounder is Christopher Barnwell who was on 24, which included four well-timed fours, while 40-year-old dependable middle-order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul had earlier contributed 45, as he added 83 for the fourth wicket with Deonarine. Gavin Tonge has so far taken 2 for 39.
