BAD DAY FOR T&T

The dark clouds looked ominous at Queen’s Park Oval yesterday, but it was the Barbados Pride that first made good on their threats, condemning the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force to 89 for seven, still 271 runs behind on first innings at the end of Day Two of their WICB Professional Cricket League four-day encounter.

The few fans on hand at the Tragarete Road, Port of Spain venue could only watch on in horror as yet another embarrassing top order collapse effectively put the home side out of the contest, barring a miraculous fightback today. First, captain Kraigg Brathwaite returned to defy T&T with a towering 182, leading the Bajans to a healthy total of 360, then pacers Carlos Brathwaite and Kemar Roach put the Red Force batting to the sword, the first five wickets falling in the space of 20 runs.
The rain finally showed up briefly, and only a gritty top score of 26 (81 balls) from Yannic Cariah allowed T&T to resume their first innings today.

Jamaica in driver's seat at Sabina Park

Debutant fast bowler Marquino Mindley and spinner Nikita Miller were again the stars of the show for Jamaica Franchise on yesterday's second day of their WICB Four-day Professional League clash against Windwards Volcanoes at Sabina Park.

Mindley, who ended day one with three for seven, and made a third best score of 43, went on to finish with five for 35 in the Windwards total of 110.

Guyana Jaguars in sight of full points against Leewards

THERE is an old saying in Guyana, ‘When you catch a pacu yuh bust he back and fill it with salt’, and certainly the Leon Johnson led Guyana Jaguars did just that in their first round West Indies Cricket Board/Professional Cricket League four day encounter against the Leeward Islands yesterday.

Playing at the Guyana National Stadium where they resumed the second day on 230 for 5 with Narsingh Deonarine on 73 and Christopher Barnwell 24, the home team rallied to score 343, with Deonarine hitting an unbeaten 110, his 10th first class ton.
