This year’s Regional Under-19 Tournament will be played in Jamaica between July 20 and August 3, and will be contested under a 50 overs-a-side format. The six regional teams – Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago and Windward Islands – along with a side from ICC Americas will play the other once in a round-robin competition with the top two teams contesting the Final to determine the winner.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for the region’s best young players to showcase their talent to break into the West Indies Under-19 squad for the ICC Youth World Cup next year in Bangladesh,” said WICB Director of Cricket Richard Pybus.

“The side has already contested the NAGICO Super 50 and currently a number of players are concluding a training camp in Barbados as part of the continued build-up.”

Details about the fixtures will be released at a later date.

Appointment of Committees

The Directors ratified the re-appointment of Jennifer Nero, Clifford Reis and Don Wehby as Independent Directors.

Nero was the first-ever female director of the WICB when she was appointed four years ago and is the current Managing Director of the East Caribbean Central Bank, a position she has held for the last decade.

She is an accountant by profession with advanced management training from the World-renowned Harvard Business School and Oxford University.

She previously served in the cricket fraternity as a Board Member for the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 and played netball for her native St. Kitts & Nevis at the 1979 World Championships.

For close to three decades, Reis has been the chairman and managing director of Banks DIH Limited, whose principal activities are the brewing, blending, bottling and wholesale marketing of beers, wines, liquors and assorted beverages, the processing of food items, the operation of restaurants, bars, laundry services, hotels and the operation of commercial banking in Guyana.

He has also been a Director of Demerara Mutual Life Insurance for a quarter of a century and holds the chairmanship of Citizens Bank of Guyana. He also served on the Board of Directors of the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007.

Reis was also bestowed Sweden’s second highest national award the Commander of the Polar Star last year in recognition of his service as Guyana’s honorary consul to that nation.

Wehby is group Chief Executive Officer at Grace Kennedy. He was appointed a Government Senator and Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service during the period 2007 to 2009 in his native Jamaica, where he is also Vice-President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica.

A Fellow Chartered Accountant, Wehby gained his early auditing experience at Touche-Ross Thorburn and has completed advanced management training at the well-known Stanford University in the American state of California.

He is an avid cricket fan and a member of the Kingston Cricket Club, which calls the famous Sabina Park its home.
