Samuels Named in Match-Fixing Scandal

West Indies middle order batsman Marlon Samuels has been accused of playing a part in fixing the first One Day International between India and the West Indies in Nagpur on January 21, according to press reports out of India.CaribbeanCricket.com has confirmed that police in Nagpur sent a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) offering "definitive proof" of telephone conversations between Samuels and bookie Mukesh Kochchar during which vital match information was allegedly leaked by the Jamaican batsman.
Samuels could not be reached for comment. The West Indies Players' Association (WICB) confirmed it had received word of of the allegations and said it would launch an immediate investigation.
According to media reports, the Jamaican right-hander, who had a superb series with the bat, allegedly leaked information like pitch conditions, the West Indies batting order and team strategies.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said that Samuels gave out information on the batting line-up but "we have no evidence about financial commitment made."
No other West Indies player is reported to have been involved.
The ICC's anti-corruption unit is involved in the investigations.
