For a second successive match, England Women managed to botch up what seemed a straightforward chase. Chasing 109 against West Indies Women in a Group B tie in Dharamsala on Thursday (March 24), England were cruising at 59 for no loss in the ninth over, but before anyone could make sense of what was happening, they were 106 for 9 and the equation boiled down to three off two balls.
Deandra Dottin, bowling that final over, lost her nerve and gave a wide and Rebecca Grundy scampered for single off the next ball. Finally, it was all up to Natalie Sciver (19 not out off 22 balls), who was kept off strike all the while, and she managed to sprint to the other end as West Indies failed to effect a run-out that was there for the taking. While West Indies players sunk to ground in despair, the batters collapsed into each other's arms, the one-wicket victory giving England a good chance of making it to the semifinal.
