Carib Beer

After six rounds of the 2004 Carib Beer Cricket Series, there are several tantalising scenarios unfolding as regional teams, with the obvious exception of Barbados, jostle for semi-final position.

The points standing so far: Barbados 72; Jamaica 40; Trinidad & Tobago 40; Windward Islands 36; Guyana 28; West Indies B 27; Leeward Islands 16; Kenya 16. Let's now take a look at the "what if" scenarios to figure out the likely contenders in the semi-finals

  • Barbados has already qualified.

  • Jamaica will definitely finish in the top four as even if they lose they cannot be dislodged by Guyana or the West Indies B.

  • The Leeward Islands and Kenya are definitely out of the running.

  • Guyana and the West Indies B are in *must win* situations for them to stand a chance of going through.

The matches to be played in round seven are:
Barbados at Trinidad & Tobago
Leeward Islands at Jamaica
West Indies B at Windward Islands
Kenya at Guyana

The toss up is now between Trinidad & Tobago, the Windward Islands, Guyana and the West Indies B.

  • If Trinidad & Tobago gets any points from their game, they would go through at the expense of Guyana.

  • The Windward Islands needs only four points from their game to go through as that would take them to 40 points. Even if Guyana wins and goes to 40 points, the Windwards would still go through as they have already beaten Guyana in the head-to-head clash.

  • The West Indies B must beat Windward Islands outright to go through but they will also need for Kenya to deny Guyana full points.

  • If both Guyana and the West Indies B win their games outright, then Guyana with 40 points will go through ahead of the WI B on 39.

  • Guyana can dislodge Trinidad & Tobago on 40 points if Guyana beats Kenya outright and T&T loses outright to Barbados (Guyana beat T&T and by virtue of that result will go through).

  • If Jamaica loses to the Leewards and Guyana wins against Kenya, they would both end on 40 points but Jamaica would go through having beaten Guyana.
