The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Friday announced that the 2005 Carib Beer series, the regional domestic four-day competition, gets underway on 7 January.

This year tournament will be played on a home-and-away basis ensuring that each of the six teams taking part will play at least 10 games each. A significant change is that the final will be contested over five days.

The new format caters for the Carib Beer League and the Carib Beer Challenge with the latter being contested between the top two teams in the League. The second-placed team can only win the Carib Beer Challenge by beating the League winners outright in a five-day game.

The 2005 Carib Beer Series will be contested among Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and Windward Islands. There will be no international component in the Series for 2005.

The West Indies ?B? team, another feature of recent years, will also not be included in the competition.

The winner of the Carib Beer League Cup will receive a cash prize of US $12,500 while the Carib Beer Challenge Trophy will also receive a US $5,000 cash prize.
