Breaking - Roger Clarke is dead
In reply to Chrissy
sad news! RIP!
In reply to camos
Turn on RJR 94.5FM at noon for details. I am really not sure if he died at the Miami airport or Norman Manley or maybe I'm just hoping he made it home.
He made an ominous statement saying he had to recover because Jamaica needs him.
Died at the airport in Florida.
In reply to Chrissy

Then on di party platform when he told dem how many cell phones were delivered by di party to Jamaica and he told peeps dat they have so many phones now dat dem can tek out one phone and call demselves on di adda one.
One time he called Barbara Gloudon to ask her to ask di press why there were no editorials or cartoons about him. Roger gave as good as he got and always with humour.

He was indeed a good man, may his soul rest in peace.
In reply to Chrissy
For all his time in politics, can u name one significant achievement?
In reply to HumbleCalf
Being respectful to the deceased is monotheist duty. This is no time to question the man's achievement.
Shame on you man
[b]In reply to camos[/b
i've known the man ever since i was a kid, before he entered politrix, while he worked at appleton estate..
In reply to ChrissyChrissy that wasn't in Half Way Tree it was Liganea I remember it well, he also closed Montgomery Avenue in Richmond Park and got cussed for that too
In reply to Chrissy
He never seemed to let anything bother him, always calm in his response.
In reply to Coldlikeice

In reply to Chrissy
so why dont you answer the man's question?..oh, and by the way, he asked for one, just one, and i obliged with two.
did you go to mr mc funeral?
In reply to Wally-1
No - could not
In reply to bimbo
He was a man of strong values and ethics and I always admired his down to earth personality.
Sad to learn of the passing of Busha Roger Clarke of Appleton St Elizabeth. This amiable rotund politician by all accounts was well loved by the common folks. It's interesting that not one person on this thread mentioned his penchant for hard living which included hard drinking and womanizing. His love of the bottle resulted in him killing a young boy a few years back while driving his SUV. Needless to say, he got off unscathed because supposedly, the breathalyzer on him was not administered until 3 days after the accident. Turned out to be one of the easiest cases KD Knight ever won. I have always felt that he should have served time or at least resign from office but, this is post independence Jamaica we are dealing with where politicians are for the most part above the law. RIP Mr.Clarke.
In reply to DonD
You are correct re the accident and it was covered extensively here. Didn't know about the womanizing part but knew he liked a drink or two.
That said it will come up again after the funeral.
In reply to DonD
He is now dead, it is not appropriate to speak ill of a decedent.
In reply to Chrissy
The lovable Busha's first cousin is the caretaker for my home in Montego Bay. I also know some people in Santa Cruz who are friendly with him. Easy to pickup bits and pieces here and there.
In reply to Emir
My friend, that kind of decorum on this message board went through the window with the blatant disrespect that was shown to Southie's wife and children.
In reply to DonD
A lot of people on here are willing to overlook bad behavior to the detriment of the victims
In reply to black
Wow, did he do you any harm? If I didn't knn ow any better, I would have believe he was the terror of Kingston.
In reply to Emir
Don't know the man.....bad behavior is bad behavior regardless who the victim is
I got ridiculed for pointing that out
In reply to black
but wait, DonD you bad sah...
didn't bother to mention that because most people here dont know who a busha is.
In reply to DonD
Yes, so typical of Jamaica.
Albeit Yellow didn't kill anyone, I can recall him being charged with DUI from which he got off unblemished. That didn't stop him from becoming Prime Minister even if it were short-lived.
In reply to Emir
Truthfully I think we should cover all facets of people's lives when they die.
That said I know at least one man in Parliament who had a child with his helper's 14 year old daughter.
I'd banish those who do these deeds first but DonD has a point re resignations after DUI accidents that lead to death.
But what about the MPs who were responsible for the deaths of so many people as a result of political violence?
I would start with Blinds. Some think he is a statesman.
In reply to Chrissy
My point is a simple one: When a person dies, just preceding the final rites, it is forbidden, peoples of Islamic faith will tell you it is "haram", to speak ill of that person.
Post funeral, if analyzing that person, especially a public figure, it is acceptable to be honest when conducting that analysis.
If Don D aand others felt so strong about the man and his "sins" why the heck wait until he is dead to speak out, nothing can come from it.
If you and others so care about the harm cause to Jamaica by our inept and "crooked" politicians, please, and by all means, so something about it today and don't wait until the "crooks" are dead.
Nuff said
In reply to Emir
There is no doubt that we have a number of crooked politicians..not just Jamaica. While we point fingers at politicians we are on the other hand making business deals with, making purchases from and working for some very cortrupt businessmen.
Roger had his faults, he was human and after spending so many years in public life there will be unfortunate things that come to light. A politician's life is not easy as people make it out to be. They are faced with probably more ethical decisions on a daily basis than any one else.
In reply to bimbo
The most corrupt people are foreign and local corporations and banks as well as foreign and local special interests.
Not one politician could be corrupt without them - but they are never targets.
In reply to Chrissy
Oh I see, lets blame the foreigners for our problems. End of story.
[b]In reply to Chrissy[/b
no, they are the likes of jag smith, mr i shall return, mr i forgot and the latest one that kd rescued...set of state rapists.
In reply to Emir
that's chrissy for you, very illogical and one track.
In reply to Wally-1
You missed my point - and yes Smith and his PS were scumbags for robbing poor farm workers but most of the real money that passes between parties/politicians and others comes from overseas corporations - or most recently their community dons with drug links.
Wait for me - Roger - Clarke wanted to help with funeral arrangements for campaign manager
"My father (Kenneth Singh) was his campaign manager and their friendship went back many years. We would visit his home and he would visit our home," said Natasha Singh. "We saw him like a big uncle, and that was from long before he became our MP."
She added, "When we called him (Clarke) and told him that daddy had died, he said we should delay all the funeral arrangements until he gets back to Jamaica ... He said he was coming back today (Thursday)," said Singh. "We were here digging daddy's grave when we got the news. Everybody is shocked. Right now I am trembling."
In summing up her best memory of Clarke, Singh remembers him as a happy person, who was a great lover of mannish water (goat soup).
"He used to love when my father cooked mannish water," Singh said. "Sometimes he would send and call my father to come to his house to cook for him ... . He really enjoyed my father's cooking."
