HEADLINE: Same old; More things change, more they remain the same

This is neither the beginning nor the end of anything. By abandoning the tour of India after the fourth One Day International on Friday, Dwayne Bravo and his team are merely participating in the continuation of a process. It is a process defined by dysfunction and mistrust between two of the three key parties in West Indies cricket that the third party—West Indians and fans of West Indies cricket—has endured for almost 40 years, at least.
During the political standoff between the Democrats and Republicans that essentially shut down the US government three years ago over the matter of dealing with that country’s gargantuan national debt (it was then over US$15 trillion), the succession of last-minute deals that kept the nation open for business was described by political observers as “kicking the can down the road.” In other words, they were short-term measures that didn’t really deal with the key issues in any meaningful way.

This is the same Clive Lloyd who led the mass withdrawal of World Series-contracted players on the eve of the West Indies’ third Test against Australia in Guyana in 1978; who fulfilled his contractual obligations to Kerry Packer’s breakaway tournament later that same year in Australia along with an entire squad of mainly first-choice West Indies players rather than lead the Caribbean side to India for a six-Test series; and who, during the home series against Bangladesh last month, called on players to “show loyalty” and prioritise representing the West Indies ahead of lucrative T20 franchise contracts.

Record-breaking former fast bowler Courtney Walsh laments the washing of the regional game’s dirty linen in public, the same Courtney Walsh who remained holed up with his West Indies teammates at a hotel at Heathrow Airport in London as they haggled with the West Indies Cricket Board prior to an historic and ultimately disastrous first official Test tour of South Africa at the end of 1998.

Former Test leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine, who is better remembered for his often confrontational but ultimately very successful (for the players) decade-long tenure at the helm of the West Indies Players Association, wanted to talk about the facts of the issue between the players and the new WIPA executive—headed by Wavell Hinds—during last Friday’s Sporting Edition on TV6.
But that factual analysis did not include an examination of his own personal stake in the matter as the agent for two players in the West Indies squad. It’s only in these parts that people seem to believe that they should have their paratha and eat it, too.

Everybody wants their coin.

The article is actually spot on. He identified the issue. People keep pushing the solution to a next group. And everyone acts in their self interest.

This is neither the beginning nor the end of anything.

That is NOT the issue. It was a waste of ink and internet bits.

That's Caribbean journalism for ya. They just copy from each other, change a line or 2 and regurgitate the rest.

What WE have in the Region regarding Cricket are EMPERORS ,who apparently in their Kingdom can do as they want , and are answerable to no One , in their Kingdom they can do just about anything and suffer no consequences for their actions .

They are surrounded by PAGES whose job is to tell the General Public , that the Emperors are doing a great job in their governance of their Kingdom .

These PAGES are everywhere , spreading the
greatness of the Emperors . They spread the word through Newspapers ; Radio ;
Commentaries and Blogs ; even in this Forum .

The real problem for the Emperors and their Pages is the fact that THE EMPERORS ARE STARK NAKED . Their PAGES are so spellbound in their adoration of the Emperors , they can see that the Emperors are naked ; but are terrified to tell them that they are naked .

Look in this Forum for over a decade I have stated that The Emperors in the WICB are protected by many in the Region who tell us that they are Sports Journalists .
It is this symbiotic relationship that has brought Cricket in the Region to a new low . The Emperors and their Pages in the Media relish putting all the blame for what is wrong with Cricket in the Region on the Players .
