The Indian cricket board (BCCI) will make good on its promise to take legal action against the West Indies Cricket Board if it does not receive US$41.97million in compensation within 15 days.
The Express obtained a copy of a letter sent yesterday to WICB president Dave Cameron, signed by BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel in which the Indian board gave notice of its intention to, “seek compensation from the WICB to the fullest extent permissible in law,” since it holds the regional body liable for losses incurred because of the cancellation of three Test matches and a solitary Twenty20 International.
West Indies players, led by ODI captain Dwayne Bravo abandoned the one-day series after the fourth match because of a dispute over the terms of a new bargaining agreement signed by the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) and the WICB. But even as the prime ministers of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr Gonsalves and Grenada, Dr Keith Mitchell met with the estranged parties at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, the WICB was having to deal with a threat that became reality from the BCCI.

So BCCI invoice WICB for losses? This is nothing more than a little hyped up sabre rattling. Tell BCCI to go file grievance in court and stop wid them threatening letters.

If BCCI moves to court, no way they will win 42mn, considering they have refused a replacement team. The actual compensation will be much lesser than that amount.

Given that the WICB is already operating at a loss, even if this sum is reduced, where is the WICB going to find the money to pay this back? Especially since India refuse to play the West Indies now....

They'll find a way. Just like how Don Hilaire's WICB found a way to pay out the millions to Ramskunt's WIPA (or was it WIMPACOL?), Cameron and company will find a way.

The WICB shoukd tell the BCCI to step!

No way we should pay this. Also if we do pay it, does that mean that the 2016 home series are back on otherwise surely we are being penalised twice!!!

So let them ban us. Pathe BCCI wants to get rid of test cricket anyway.

Please don't pay WICB. You offered a replacement team, they refused. Tough!!

India must mitigate damages. They will argue they did and are accepting 42 millions as mitigated damages. WICB will have to pay that amount. They will have no choice. When or if they pay it, India will take the money and state they want to help rebuild West Indies through a cooperative union led by ICC and advised by Caribbean entities. The position for Cameron and his cronies will become untenable. The WICB will have to resign. The ICC will step in to help select a new cricketing board. India and other Asian cricketing nations will help through ICC to help build the new "WICB". West Indies cricket may be in a better position, but we doubt it.
