HEADLINE: Dwayne Bravo quits Tests

CaribbeanCricket.com 2015-01-31 07:54:31

Dwayne Bravo, the West Indies allrounder, has announced his retirement from Test cricket, but wants to continue representing the side in limited-overs games. Bravo had not played Tests since December 2010, and his decision comes after he lost the ODI captaincy to Jason Holder and was then axed from the one-day side for the tour of South Africa and also the World Cup.

West Indies had pulled out from their tour of India last year under Bravo's leadership over a payment dispute with their board and players association. His subsequent removal from the squad had led to allegations of victimization from his lawyer, but chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd had said there was no axe to grind. Bravo was picked for the T20 internationals against South Africa and was also given a central contract by the board.

Good point, it is a preemptive move by Bravo,he does not want to give the selectors the satisfaction.

What is staggering to me is that since Bravo's last test match in 2010 he has played 1 first class match in 2012 and 2 in 2013.
Someone who purports to be a cricketer yet shows no interest in playing test cricket suggests to me that such a person is not in it for the correct reasons.

Times have changed Dukesy.

FC cricket doesn't pay anything in real terms and is strictly to prep for Tests. Doesn't have much value to the new wave of T20 entrpeneurs.

Short sighted response.
If you think about it and look it up you'll see that it was only those 3 matches that he was available to play.
No player and I sure you'd agree would give up serious IPL money to play FC matches.
And when he wasn't playing IPL its was WI duties.
Everytime the likes of him and Pollard has been available they've played for T&T and for the local club in T&T.
Well that was until Bravo retired from Test cricket a day ago.

Look at Darren Sammy.
Only joined the IPL in 2013 and has only played 1 FC match since.
From the time he made Captain late 2010 to the end of 2012 he only played in 2 FC matches.

Gayle only has 2 since 2008.

Note: When I say FC I mean regional cricket.

Sad end to what was a promising Test career.
Always gave his all in the field as his many injuries on the field shows.
Remember him and Rammo as youths taking on Warne and co. in OZ.
Remember him coming back from that bad injury in 09, while he had missed out as his mates were made instant millionaires in the 20/20 fuh 20 match all while he was paying for his own treatment.
He went to OZ and scored a ton and also bowled better than most if not all the specialists bowlers we had.

Was forced out due to the team having to accommodate Sammy although both could've played as Bravo as a batsman was better than some of the specialist batsmen who were playing in the XI.

Would've just been a couple months past 27 years old when he played his last test, just about enter his prime one would think.

Tough luck Bravo.

Everyone knows that at 27, bravo and any other all rounder was pushed aside to make room for Sammy in tests. West indies were never going to play more than 1 all rounder in the test team and with Sammy's spot guaranteed as captain for 3 years, the reality is no other all rounder would have been able to make the team.

IBravo, Bermard Jr, etc were all sacrificed at the Sammy altar. It is what it is.

Bravo can now concentrate more on his LO career and his other business interests. WI can move along without a branded "troublemaker". Selah

I need some time to reflect on Bravo. There's a lot going on in my head.

So the bigger point is no one who does not have time for FC should be selected for Test cricket.

Sammy, Bravo, whoever.

It is not a short-sighted response. It highlights the problem with our cricketers.
