Forget West Indies Cricket! Develop Guyana’s cricket first

FORMER Guyana and West Indies captain Alvin Kallicharran said that the time has come for him to play an active role in helping to develop the game of cricket in his homeland.
The now 65 year-old Kallicharran scored 12 centuries in his 66 Tests played for the West Indies, with 187 his highest score.. He also played 31 ODIs during his 1972-1981 stretch of his playing career, after making his debut against New Zealand at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground Bourda in 1972.
While the focus is on developing West Indies Cricket, Kallicharran said that emphasis should be placed on developing Guyana’s cricket first.

We share the same belief, each region must develop its own cricketers, in order for the cricket to move forward.

The only cricket that will move forward is T20

Kalli is perfectly correct.

Let me say this , those who believe that
making just their Country being the best in the Region will make our Team the best in the World believe in the Tooth Fairy .

Not only is this asinine , it is also selfish ; because their sole intention is to pack the West Indies Team with their Players .
That surely aint Cricket ; and is not going to bring our Players once again to the top of International Cricket . The only thing

TO GET TO THE TOP WE MUST HAVE COOPERATION

IN THE REGION . ALL ACADEMIES MUST BE

OPEN TO ALL PROMISING PLAYERS IN THE REGION

It certainly does not help Cricket in the
Region when every year one or two teams
dominate Regional Cricket ; and in International Cricket we are losing . WE
need to look at Cricket from a macro perspective , not a micro perspective .

Dude what you think happens when each Island prepares for U-13, U-17, U-19 and regional tournaments?
You really don't get it, a strong Guyana makes the guys they play against better, which make players entering the International circuit better.
Bowlers got better bowling to Viv, Richie, Rohan and Lara, the problem today is, the local boards are not producing players.
Kallis is correct, each Island must prepare their team for the regionals, none of them are doing it.
This has nothing to be selfish about, it is about developing a structure from the local grass root level, to the regional level.

Do you think if Guyana cricket is strong, others will want theirs to be strong?
This has nothing to do with the International circuit, it is getting your best players to compete at every level.
Is Kalli talking about going it alone or is he want to fix cricket in his home land?

I am totally unconvinced that what you are saying is going to help Cricket in the Region as a whole .

The gist of what you are saying is that if Guyana & Barbados dominate Cricket in the Region that will ultimately make the West Indies Team the best in the World .

That is with all due respect , totally absurd .The interest of Cricket from a Regional perspective must be paramount if
the fortunes of the West Indies Team are to be revived .

You were talking about macro, your Econ study may have taugh you aboutthe relation to macro and micro economics.
It i over 25 years since I took that course, but I still remember the basic.
This has nothing with dominating regional tournaments, Barbados done that already, it is getting the best structure in your Island to develop cricketers.
Do you complaint about Jamaica and its track and field structure, why would now want to complaint about any Island looking at best practices and working to develop its cricket?
If the Windwards fall behind, it will not be T&T, Bim, Jamaica, Guyana or the Leewards, it will be people in the Windwards, who think like you.

A team full of Trinis ain't getting us nowhere.

Time to turn back to Guyana.
