Our Bowlers - Worst in this World Cup?

Hendra 2015-02-28 19:20:53

I don't recall a time when we had a worse bowling attack than this current one. It seems to me that our bowling attack in this WC is weaker than even the minnows`

Afghanistan's looks more potent.

Obviously you are stuck with what you select

Statistically probably yeah.
We've played 4 games, 2 vs lower ranked team aka minnows.
In Cricinfo's best economy rate lists(it has the top 50 or thereabouts players) we only have 1 player in the list, Gayle who is 3rd from the bottom.

Afaghanistan have 6 bowlers.
OZ - 3
Ban - 4
Eng - 1
Ind - 7
Ire - 4
NZ - 5
Pak - 2
Sco - 3
SA - 3
SL - 4
UAE - 4
ZIM - 1

Tied with ENG and ZIM, ENG guy is one spot above Gayle while the ZIM guy is midway in the list.

The coaches should get some of the blame, they are getting at least three days to prepare for the opposition and it seems like they do not have a plan.

You blaming coaches for failure at the highest level? Coaches are important at the regional and schoolboy level when preparation for the big time is important. But carry on if you think they should invest in coaching test and ODI Int players

At this level Coaches/ managers are required to research and plan for every variable

1 the pitch---spin? Pace? bounce?--leads to strategic adjustments ie play 3 pacers and an Offie and leftie spin? Difficult pitch, play 6 top batsmen?

2 the ground's winds and light, weather expected---who likely to operate better?

3 all opposing players strengths and weaknesses---bowling, batting, fielding.

4 knowledge of strategies such as NRR ie chasing 400 maybe we try to make 300 instead of 150?

5 Fitness and rehab, nutrition

helluva lot more! cool

dayne 2015-03-01 11:27:07

In reply to moneybrain At the international level, preparation is just as important as the talent on the field on game day and I am please you recognize that. It seems like the WI coaches could not make the adjustments needed after being hammered by SA in the series before the WC. The amount of runs Holder give up in the last match was a good example of bad planning.

DIEHARD 2015-03-01 11:52:44

In reply to dayne

Exactly.

I blame the captain, but what is the purpose of the support team.

Did you hear AB talk about the plans they have for each WI batsman?

Did you hear Holders plan? Starve AB of the strike.

Mental midgets the whole lot, mens versus boys

Hendra 2015-03-01 17:47:33

My problem is that apart from Holder all our other bowlers are experienced campaigners certainly more than Boult or Southie so why aren't our bowlers improving?

Pull your dotish head out of the fcuking sand. You talking about fans griping?

Notwithstanding Pakistan's woeful batting, WI cannot depend on this bowling unit to defend 300 runs. That was very evident in the series against SA.

At what point do you hold these guys and their coaches responsible?

According to the selectors these are the best choices at the moment

BeatDball 2015-03-01 18:01:47

I just cant understand how jt cant dislodge d big bats of dominant teams.

No coach can help West Indian bowlers. It takes a brain and discipline to bowl at the international level.
Our bowlers lack both.
Many Skippers have been criticised for strategies and field placing but now many here are starting to understand.
It is impossible to set a field to these bowlers.
And yes. This is the worse bowling side in this World Cup.

Sammy's a vastly experienced bowler, but he's just not good enough at this level.

As for Taylor, he has his moments but not the consistency.

don1 2015-03-02 16:26:47

In reply to Tryangle

Taylor has 9 wickets and that puts him at 5th.

Believe it or not Gayle is the next ranked bowler with 5 wickets.

When your opener is your 2nd best something is wrong.

All other front-line bowlers have not preformed well.

But Sammy was the go to bowler in T20 and ODI cricket before Marine was in the team - he was so accurate. So what has happened. Has Sammy lost his bowling prowness

BULLSHIT!!!
When licks flying....Scammy hides.

That`s why he nearly NEVER bowled his quota.

BRAVO....was the `go to bowler`.

he was so accurate

The `go to bowler` should be a wicket taker.

POINT 2015-03-04 18:32:28

WE need our Pace Bowlers to master the art of making the ball swing . In the Region , there has been an over dependence on :

" PACE LIKE FIRE "
,
That is only good to a certain point . Then there is the question of Stamina , Metal &
Physical . Obviously the faster a bowler
bowls , the less control he has . Philander
aint no very fast bowler . He however gets wickets .
