ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board has welcomed its meeting with the CARICOM Committee on Cricket Governance this coming Monday in Grenada.

All 18 directors of the WICB including President Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron and Vice President Emmanuel Nanthan, along with Chief Executive Officer Michael Muirhead and Corporate Secretary Verlyn Faustin will meet with the CARICOM Committee at the Silver Sands Beach Resort.

“This will be a big opportunity for us to fortify our relationship with CARICOM,” said WICB Chief Executive Officer Michael Muirhead.

“We believe that the governments of the Caribbean are among the group of key stakeholders in West Indies cricket and we want to engage them on some of the critical matters relating to the advancement of the sport in the region.”

The two sides will discuss: (1) reform and governance of West Indies Cricket; (2) matters with the Board of Control for Cricket in India over the aborted West Indies Tour of India last year; and (3) the relationship between the CARICOM Committee on Cricket Governance and the WICB.

Grenada Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Keith Mitchell will chair the meeting, which will also be attended by Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie, the current CARICOM chairman; Antigua & Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, chairman of the CARICOM Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket; and St. Vincent & the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

The meeting will be staged on the eve of the second Test between West Indies and England which starts the following day at the National Cricket Stadium. The three-Test series is level 0-0 after the first Test ended in a draw on Friday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.

I sincerely hope that the Prime
Ministers have the testicular fortitude to
to not be taken in by the Emperors .

I have absolutely no doubt those in the governance of Cricket in the Region , have some scheme up their Sleeves .

The only time that they want to meet with
the Governments of the Region ; is when they want to get their hands on Taxpayers money .

The Question that they must be asked , is this ; After seeking the assistance of the
Regional Governments to host the 2007
Cricket World Cup in the Region ; Why
is it that they have bluntly refused to
to change the Structure of Cricket in the Region .

Despite commissioning the Patterson Report
& the Wilkin Report . Finally I hope that
the Regional Governments would tell them
that their behaviour regarding the cancellation of the Tour to India was
exceedingly Callous ;Reckless , and wantonly disregarded the Financial impact cancelling the Tour would have on the BCCI .
Because they wanted as usual, to not only embarrass the Players ; they wanted to reinforce , the fact that they are the Players Bosses .

They made up their Beds , so let them to lie in them . BTW , Please do not accept any word of mouth deal with them any arrangement with the WICB must be in writing , and must also be a legally binding document .

Let me remind the Prime Ministers in the Region , that YOU had asked them to implement the changes suggested by the
Patterson Report , but they not only refused to do that , they commissioned another Report , the Wilkin Report , which they also swiftly rejected .

Evidently the fact that the Governments
bent over backwards in helping them host the 2007 Cricket World Cup , meant nothing to them . They are always Arrogant ; Why?
because they are accountable to no One on the Planet .

This is despite the fact that they have no Grounds or Stadia . Let me quote what the
Judges in India told the BCCI , and this applies also to the WICB , :

" CRICKET IS A PUBLIC SPORT

YOU ARE ONLY THE CUSTODIANS ".

Look at what happen with Sri Lanka Cricket though Point. I mean the ICC have basically hamstrung the board by withholding the funding due to political interference.

Look the solution is very easy , the ICC
could tell the WICB to be a good Steward
of Cricket in the Region .

Now if the ICC fails to do that , then they
can be taken to Court . Hell , there exists
an abundance of evidence that proves the WICB is totally unfit to be in the governance of Cricket in the Region .

The latest so far is the WICB's Reckless , behaviour by cancelling the Tour to India
without any regard to the Financial impact
cancelling the Tour would have on the Indian Cricket Board .

The President of Pakistan on 4 separate
occasions sacked the Pakistan Cricket Board for malfeasance ; he appointed a President & an interim Board , to run Cricket in Pakistan until there was Elections for all Posts on the Board .

Now if the ICC is so sure of itself why doesn't build Stadia in the Region and have Grounds . The WICB is not a Private
Entity, it owns on Cricket Grounds or Stadia in the Region .

So then what will happen if the Regional
Governments refuse to allow the WICB use
of their Grounds & Stadia . They have leverage , but it is their Crabs in a Barrel mentality that prevents them from
doing what needs to be done for Cricket in the Region .

I sincerely hope that common sense prevail among CARICOM members and that they front up the M$42 to pay off India. After all cricket seems to be on the up again in the region. That's a small price to pay for our bread and butter ....

Kay obviously must b smoking some really bad Stuff . The Regional Governments were responsible for the 2007 Cricket World Cup
that was held in the Region a Success .

Kay , conveniently forgets the fact that
the WICB aint own no Cricket Grounds & Stadia in the Region .

In this Forum I stated prior to the hosting of the 2007 World Cup , that the Regional Governments needed to have a legally binding document signed by the WICB , stating in clear unambiguous terms
that the WICB MUST UNDERGO SERIOUS STRUCTURAL CHANGES .

The Regional Governments had the WICB over a barrel , and did not do a blasted thing , that is why when they asked the WICB to implement the changes the Patterson Report
stated , the WICB completely ignored that request .

Perhaps , the people in the WICB never ever thought in their colossal ARROGANCE
that they would have to come crawling to the Regional Governments 8 freaking years later .

But here they are once again , crawling on their bellies , like the Snakes that they are . I hope that this time the Regional Governments refuse to let them off the Hook .

Any assistance they must get from the Regional Governments must have a legally Binding document stating that the WICB within 6 months is going to undergo
serious Structural Changes , in the Regional Boards ; the WICB & Operations
at Factory Road .

Now if that is not done , I will have to conclude that the Regional Governments are
not only devoid of Testicular Fortitude ;
but does not give a Damn about Cricket in the Region . But then they probably can seek solace in the fact , that most if not all of the Sports Journalists in the Region are already on the WICB's Team .

Do the Governments of the Region or the ICC for that matter have the track record in good governance to advise the WICB on the matter?

If not then isn´t the WICB practice simply an extension of our societal norms? In the past any administration that incurred the fallout with the BCCI that was recently seen would have resigned or been kicked out at the first opportunity. But look at political life where a Speaker in the House of Parliament was taken to court for not paying his client money for years. The Speaker was forced to pay and then proceeded to act as though nothing happened? And there is much worse than this. So why expect different from anyone in authority and worse expect the Governments to demand this?

The ICC is led by an individual who had to step down from his own association for corruption no less - and no one can challenge him.

POINT 2015-04-18 09:42:34

What power does the International Cricket Cabal have if the WICB is denied use of the
Government owned Facilities in the Region ??
I do not think that the ICC is empowered to ban the Regional Governments .

This is precisely why it is necessary for
the Regional Governments to collectively &
Individually play Hardball with the WICB .
Quite frankly , the WICB has been , and is a colossal Embarrassment to Cricket , not only in the Region , but the World .

What I'd like you to do is search "grenada" and "silver sands beach resort" and see if you find anything. Remember, I'm in the hotel industry. Well, was. No hotel is open called Silver Sands. And if you find anything then I will be the first to say I goofed.

Controversy 2015-04-18 21:41:56

why is there no trinis involved in this decision????

we are the regional power house in terms of finance and all other areas, no decision should be made without us putting our seal of approval

Cortes 2015-04-19 10:48:12

Why would you want to get involved? The only role the rest of the region think T&T has in West Indies cricket is when finance comes into play.. The Bajans have tons of extra money, they are the Mecca of cricket in the region and as leaders they should take charge.T&T say in W.I cricket is trivial keep what ever money you have and invest in your football program.
