I have a question/suggestion for posters

Yamfoot 2015-04-25 18:10:02

Would you make some of these mean spirited comments to the cricketers to their face, and with the same venom?

Suggestion: Before posting, think of one of Stephen Covey's recommendation. "Be loyal to those not present"

These are the kinds I would make.

To Samuels:

Windies lost this match the moment you made a century for yourself and "whoosh, whoosh" immediately afterwards for the team.

Just imagine if you had continued to play responsibly and then take on a tiring English bowling attack, as our last wicket pairs of the likes of Bishoo and Gabriel attempted to do. We could have scored in excess of 350, maybe 400.

That extra time taken in the match and those extra runs could have meant the difference between an England victory and a drawn game.

You must reflect on those kinds of small, but crucial, aspects of how an individual can contribute to a different outcome, Marlon.

BTW, I like your your "salute"

To Blackwood:

You have a lot of talent. You must harness it, for fear of not becoming yet another PD.

What's a PD, you ask? Just check the recent past history of Windies cricket and, you will learn of certain players, who started out with as much talent and as much expectation for greatness as you, and how they made a mess of their careers - unfulfilled.

When you are at the crease, learn to value your wicket; don't give it away with reckless shot selections.

I took my three children to a local match in Barbados, the fans were yelling at a young batsman to hit the ball, people shouting at every balls, the guy got out, and some fans yell at him as he was going to the pavilion.
My daughter was so upset she ask to leave,
On our drive away from the game, they asked,"why were they yelling at the batsman and want to fight him?
Ambrose yelling today, is a good example of the West Indies culture.

Many moons ago...even during the glory years...when I watched cricket live...at Bourda and at the QPO....whenever a player screw up...he couldn't field on the boundary in peace...

I live Football, you get thrown out of the ball part if you harass a player.
You show a fan going up to a player and yelling at him during a game and remain in the stadium.

so...now back to the theme of this thread.

The question was asked if posters who cuss players would tell them so with all the vitriol to their faces.

I suggest no...but a few just might...and ultimately it boils down to the players ability to absorb and move on and or a fans lack of self control in how he approaches or speaks to players.

I have spoken to a few..and I usually seek to encourage without babying them...but I cant speak for the others who scream crap at them from in the stands..and yes I have seen it several times...especially against young Kraigg Brathwaite with his dad in ear shot.

I have never been to an NFL game but

1. At College Football the fans there are merciless.
2. At NBA the fans there are bad. And if you as a player report a fan and get him/her thrown out the ones still there are merciless towards you.

Powen is short and right; this is not limited to West Indians.

Some posters are probably bad-minded enough to do that.
Lots of empty drums around. Caribbeancricket.com couldn't even win a curry goat match with them, but that would not stop the cussing and venom.

you funny and in need of self esteem but thanks for your support.

Most on here wont say a word to the players if they would listen. I for one have a lot of information that I think can help a few of them think differently but I have constructive things to stay to them.
Those who come on here saying Marlon is Mr cool like Carl hooper need to sent to jail. Marlon cannot carry Carl jock. Being cool is one thing but carl was a great fielder and I see too many times Marlon making cool moves and not saving us runs in the field. I counted 30 runs saved by Eng. and 30 runs not saved by WI. That would have made a difference in a game.

such vitriolic attack is uncalled for. a much more civilized discussion will suffice.

most guys on here are internet bad men, so they wouldnt make these comments to anyones face. but in regards to american sports, i have pretty much been to them all. College football fans are the worse (combination of age and drunk i think). nfl fans and nba are pretty calm. baseball fans arent overly abusive.

Typical, had a fella screaming at me one day at Kensington to hit the ball hard against a decent Maple attack when we were the last recognised batsmen fighting for first innings lead with no time to actually win. I will say when he came over to the pavillion and was told the state of the game, when he was screaming, he did proceed to apologise, he was our fan! cool
