This look like what we feel in vincy couple Christmas ago....not pleasant at all! It might sound strange, but these islands here these days better off facing winds from a hurricane than torrential rain! Tomaz didn't leave as much damage as the christmas flood!
Yesterday in vincy, we got plenty rain and some this morning too. TOday I went at the wharf and its the strongest I ever see the tide serging into the harbour for a long time. So can only imagine what it doing in Dominica.

I maybe wrong, but most these very small islands are shaped in a way that the water mainly runs off to the sea. Bequia for example, only a very few areas are flat here that allows water to soak. 90% of the places have sloping areas eventually leading to the sea.
I guess that's why most them really small islands don't get much devastation when them storms passing, and most of them have harder soil which doesn't slip very easily compare to islands like Dominica, St. Vincent (mainland).

Had the same thought and remembered that our beloved Norman Girvan slipped and fell to his death from a waterfall in Dominica a few days after those Christmas floods in the Windward islands.

Dominica has so many rivers that people have built in many former river beds. When the river overflows it goes back to its old paths.
I've seen some pretty incredible things today including new roads being carved and a container tossed around like a cardboard box and move 3 miles from its original location.
Petite Savanne is cut off right now as are a few other areas. All because of rivers cutting new territories and eliminating bridges and roads etc.
The power of nature.

Water with momentum and a continuing flow is as deadly as it can get. Feel it for my dominican folks. Sometimes we in these parts take things for granted and under estimate the power of a raging river. I man I not going anywhere near them when it raining solid.

Nature rules every time - too sad for those in her path

Girl I was just coming here to ask if yall knew the number has gone up with confirmed dead...
you on it...
this is rough..I love that place and my first born only tonight found out what was happening in Dominica...locked away all day in an office...She has plenty friends in Dominica..and so do I.
cant reach anyone with 80% without power...
I told my wife at the start of JUNE...the minute they announced about a quieter than usual Hurricane Season...I said...why dont they stop doing that?
they have no idea what will happen...until it actually does...it only takes ONE hit to mash up several of us...so the talk about a quieter season is hog wash talk.
I say so.

This will make your country stronger. I expect your people to overcome this challenge and become more united to progress as a nation.
If I recall, it was 34 years ago almost to the day that David hit Dominica. The damage back then was due more to wind than rain, flooding and mudslides though.
Update - 25 dead so far. It's bad - very bad.
May God bless the beautiful island of Dominica, and all its people.

Horrible scenes coming in from Dominica Sis.
TriniD just heard from his friend in Anguilla. Seems like they made it through okay.
Has anyone heard from Commie?
Watching that video, reminds me of the flooding in Calgary and High River, back in 2013.
Let's keep this Island in our prays
