HEADLINE: West Indies must put aside distractions and defy the odds

CaribbeanCricket.com 2015-11-28 06:56:41

FOR cricket followers, this weekend there is much to hear and read about the first officially sanctioned day-night Test match, using a pink ball.

However, there is very little about the arrival in Australia earlier this week of a West Indies cricket squad for a three-Test series.

Caribbean cricket lovers of an older vintage, with memories of the glory days, find it galling in the extreme that for the international, regional and local media, a West Indies touring team in Australia deserves no more than a polite after thought.

The fact that the current West Indies team loses far more than it wins is obviously a major contribution to the current situation. Yet, that is not the whole story.

Just as crucially, shambolic management, which has led to a succession of debilitating crises over a period of many years, has demoralised the psyche and undermined the credibility of West Indies cricket. Indeed, there is a direct link between poor cricket management and on-field performances.

Many, who were once die-hard West Indies cricket fans, now angrily declare that they no longer care.

The WI biggest distractions will be on the field, it will be how to bowl and bat consistent, like they never have in their careers so far, against such good players.

I wish I could agree with the writer of this article but unfortunately I cant. Yes, I agree they have to put aside distractions but as far as defying the odds, I am lost. The biggest odd they have to put aside is the fact that they are not talented and that to me is hard to put aside.

The reality is, we have an opening pair that is not test cricket ready! Both Brathwaite and Hope should have been on some developmental program, such as an A team tour or reserve players on the test team. To have them as senior openers baffles me.

Hope in particular, is not ready for test cricket though I believe he could be a star in time to come, if managed properly. Why rush a 21 year old batsman who is averaging less than 30 in 21 first class games, on a test team to open the batting, which is something he never did in his 21 games? No wonder after 5 games his highest test score is 36, and a test average of 16.20, to play against the best bowlers in the world?

Shai Hope reminds me of a player in the 90's by the name of Leon Garrick, who arguably had some talent but like Hope, was rushed and was dropped after his first game, never to return again. I hope their poor management does not cause that to happen to Shai Hope. The odds are too huge to overcome

The fact is that WE must acknowledge the following undisputable Facts .

1. The standard of Cricket in the
Region is Piss Poor . This is an
established fact .

2. Our Players Play less Cricket in a
all the Formats of the game than m
most of Their Counterparts on
Teams ranked above our Team .

3. Contrary to the opinions of many ,
it aint the Players who have the
responsibility to ensure that the
the Standard of Cricket improves .
That is the responsibility of the
WICBC .

I know that there are many here who
are willing to absolve the WICBC of
Responsibility , I cannot , and will never subscribe to that B.S .

Their Sympathizers will come here and
bleet about not having Sponsors . My
response to that query has always been , What impediment exist that prevents the WICBC from seeking Sponsors ??? My recollection is that
once someone stated that due to Contractual Obligations , they cannot seek Sponsors .

Now I have no idea whether this is True or False. What I do know however
is that Sponsors do not love being associated with Entities that are not Winners , are perpetually in dispute with their Employees ; and are constantly mired in Bad Publicity .

You might be right that Hope is being rushed, the other option on tour is being rushed also, as his F/C record is worse than Hope, that is Chandrika. I think this youth movement has been too drastic, the selectors could have given Johnson a few more chances as his record is better than both Hope and Chandrika.

Obviously it is beyond her mental capacity to do that , hence her propensity , to display the fact that she is mentally challenged; She
deserves some sympathy .

I am fully confident that what I have stated is factual , all those who are critical regarding what I have stated ,
need to provide facts that what I have stated is untrue . When they find that they cannot do that they resort to behaving like Kay in their
frustration .
