the players will go

they have nothing to gain by not signing. The board could actually gain if they don't sign. The board will like to expose ten or more potential IPL recruits. If any one of them get signed the board gets another 10% from that signing.

in addition some of these players still need a base. West Indies cricket is still the base for maybe 10 of these players. They also need the exposure in the world cup for their own marketing brands.

and again there is the competitive factor. It will be mentally harder to watch a world cup you won 4 years ago than it is to compete in it for less money. Watching all your teammates and the best in the world on center stage at the same time and you are not there will not be easy.

all things considered, they are better off going to this world cup and then fighting for a better contract for the next world cup. If they go they will gain more support home whether they win or lose.

So why did Sammy bring it up? Are you saying Sammy is only representing himself?

the thoughts didn't all come at one time.
Once they go they will perform their best. The players are professionals and they take these games most seriously.

alright look at it this way. Gayle and Russell do a bunch of commercials on Indian television and newspapers. Bravo does music videos and was in a Bollywood movie. These opportunities come from being visible in a high profile tournament. The t20 world cup is the highest profile tournament there is. If they are not there these opportunities go somewhere else.

now Darren Sammy has confirmed that the players will or have signed the contract. It only makes sense.

Sammy said he instructed the players from day that they are going to represent West Indies. They just wanted to clear up some matters.
