He was cruising thru too.
Sucks.

Nadal was never going to win the French Open, but it's unfortunate he had to withdraw due to injury.

Fed and Rafa need to sail off into the sunset.

Put an asterisk next to Djoker's name after he wins the French next weekend.

Why?

Devin is probably harping on the fact that people asterisk Fed's career by saying he had no real competition.

Yes, because Federer never beat Djokovic, Nadal or Murray to win a grand slam.

Lucky that what? Murray beat him in straight sets on clay a few weeks ago, no?

A friend of mine is saying Rafa was busted again by the ATP for steroid use. This man is worse than me when it comes to Rafa and the steroid business, or "bananas" as he refers to it.

Imaginary, I bet.

Men's tennis is so one-dimensional these days that the one player who's good at baseline bashing is the favourite to win all Slams now. Djokovic dominates in a way that Borg and McEnroe could not do at the peak of their powers, simply because there were more specialist players. Baseliners dominated the French, serve-and-volley players dominated Wimbledon, and at the US it was a keen contest between the S&V player and the baseliner. Now, sadly, serve and volley tennis is becoming extinct.

Despite that loss to Murray, it was so refreshing watching Karlovic's style of play...coming to the net after ever serve, treating us to some nostalgic serve-and-volley tennis. That's what I miss in men's tennis these days....

I also believe that Rafa is on the juice....what I don't get though is why he has been allowed to get away with it all these years but they just recently threw Sharapova under the bus!

I love serve and volley tennis, that's why Edberg, before Fed came along, was my favourite tennis player of all time.

Karlovic has no option but to come in on his serve. He's huge, which means his movement will be compromised and exposed at the baseline. His ability to keep a point alive from the baseline, or to engage in extended ralleys is poor.

There's a reason why Federer is loved by so many tennis fans around the world; forget the championships and his obvious superior skill, it's that he's different. His style of play is considered unique. He's probably the greatest all-round tennis player of all time.

Because she's reached nowhere near Rafa's level of popularity or his accomplishments. Nadal being busted will turn the Tennis world upside down. No sports league wants another Lance Armstrong, or what happened when all those Baseball players got busted. The thing is, you can control the damage in a team sport, but when it's an individual sport like Golf or Tennis, it's such a huge deal, and there's a massive stigma that come with the territory.

The Romanian friend of mine is just a big conspiracy theorist, and he absolutely hates Nadal, so it's hard to take anything he says seriously. But he does send me articles about Nadal doping, in addition to what's being said on numerous message boards by many Tennis aficionados. His theory is that every time Nadal takes a break from the tour due to "injury," it's actually the ATP suspending him.

Another friend of mine, who's far more objective, told me years ago that a friend of a friend of his is/was a Doctor on the ATP, and basically confirmed that Nadal had been doping for years. This conversation between me and my friend took place at least 4 or 5 years ago.

That's like harping back to Hooper et al. in the era of big bats like Gayle, Pollard, Russell, etc
