I recall during the Mediterranean migrant crisis folks here were saying, somewhat smugly I thought, that Caribbean people would never take dem kinda risks.

Looking at the map, I would have been just east of there off Highway 4 just about now if we had won the last job we bid on.
Still have a team up in Lephalale though and everything seems fine with them.
How's the young opposition leader everybody was raving about when I was there last year?
In reply to JohnDoe
Well both top opposition Maimane(DA) and Malema(EFF) are young so it's a bit difficult to tell which guy they are referring to.
If they are talking about Malema:I see a very very uphill battle for this country. This is a man who wears a blazer with Robert Mugabe images imposed on it.His quest is noble , ie giving a majority black South Africans land via illegal land redistribution.
This has been tried by Zimbabwe and has failed miserably. He also believes in nationalizing the mines , which would be a catastrophic decision. The investor and corporate pullout would throw us into an unrecoverable recession.
Of course he and his cadres will make good coin selling mineral rights to the Chinese if this ever happens.
If they are talking about Maimane:There might be a glimmer of hope for this place.I personally find him a bit hard to warm to as I feel any statement he makes , always seems to have been proofread by at least 8 other DA reps but he makes all the right sounds and all the right moves.
I hope he stays the course and keeps on trying hard for the next 15-20 years as I believe he has an uphill battle ahead of him, convincing voters to vote for a party that is popular with the middle and upper classes.
He has the right ideas , in that we need to focus on education, skills development, stamping out corruption. In a country where a vote is bought with a StreetWise 2 meal , all those theories might be for nought though

How Guyanese and Yardies get in dat?? That's a totally different kinda migration..
In reply to djdrastic
The first guy. Maimane. I listened to him in Parliament last year and was impressed. It's not a good thing for one party to have such an iron grip on the state so hopefully he can play a part in loosening the ANC's grip.

As the Yardies like to say, if it inna egg, we in like red.... or something like that.
And well Guyanese not too far behind.
