Is it possible to activate a smartphone without a contract and with out monthly recurring payments.

I want to be able to add credit on an as needed basis, is there a way to achieve this?

I do not have credit card and must pay by cash.

You can unlock it yes but the new unlock apps will check the IMEI and code to make sure it is not stolen. So you have to ensure it isnt a stolen phone.

Done by the SIM. The SIM is what has the number from supplier

Ok.

if its legit then get a sim and ask for you to try it !

Dont pay cash for anything you cant try. I assume you just want to use pay as you go ?

yep pay as you go is exactly what I want.

yeah I am looking at SIM cards but not sure how to choose.

Sim cards are next to nothing bud. 20 bucks ?

ok so more info...i'm tight as hell.

the phone that is being replaced is an old samsung swivel phone that was passed on to me. It's not even in my name. I add $15 dollars credit every month.

lately the battery life has gone to shyt and a replacement battery cost more than the phone itself.

So my hand was forced...

The new phone is brand new and costs $110, I got it for less than half of that. But sadly, I now have to activate in my name. So really I'm looking for something similar to what I have been doing.
