Group of Death or Group of Focus?

Jamaica’s Under-17 Reggae Boyz have been drawn in tough Group C for the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship in Panama, pitted against confederation giants the USA and Mexico.

Some are calling it the Group of Death but the Boyz have the talent (A combined Clarendon College, Kingston College team would give the USA and Mexico a good fight) but the coaches are lacking in vision. They want to keep playing Guyana and Antigua every month.

Playing USA and Mexico should be seen as an opportunity to get everyone to focus and row in unison. If we cannot beat the USA and Mexico in the first round, what makes us believe we can beat them in the second round? rolleyes rolleyes

Am I missing something the coaches are seeing except their security of tenure? rolleyes rolleyes

Maybe the coach of the school that wins the national schools U16 competition should be the coach of the National U17 team.

US has a good team,I know two of the players, the team has about 4 guys with European Academy experience..school boys cant compete at that level.

I was trying to say the quality of the players is important but the quality of the coaching is equally important.

Ghana and Mexico always do well at U17. I don't know that they have big name players. In any case we have been to the U17 World Cup before. About 8 -10 years ago from memory.

Generally the problem with both Trinidad and Jamaica football is we don't have effective strategies to score goals. We keep getting beaten 2-0; 3-0; 3-1 or 4-0. Those figures tell a story. Losing or winning 1-0 or 2-1 tells a different story.
