Has test cricket been stifling the progression of the game?

black 2016-12-23 08:41:21

T20 is now being shown on American television, five days of regular programming would be lost, covering test matches.

carl0002 2016-12-23 11:02:57

How many days of programming dem lose covering golf.

I knew someone was going to bring that up. Yes, golf takes up a lot of programming time but I think it's a little bit more popular than cricket in the US, and there are lots of sponsorship behind golf.

Think about what you are saying, America have people from all of those countries, can you say the same for the countries listed.

You don't get it, fans in those countries are mostly interested in their own cricket teams. They are not going to spend a lot of time watching test cricket from other countries. T20 is like fast food, get in get out.

you don't get it.....any two teams playing each other would have a 1000 times any audience in America...they don'r care for the American audience in test cricket

BUT what really is your point?

Khaga 2016-12-23 17:19:02

MCC,England hegemony have done a lot of damage to the game..not to mention WI subservience to England in matters off the field..

I am not of that opinion , Test Cricket is the main link to Players of yesteryear . Like Len Hutton , Tom Graveney , Neil Harvey ; the three W's
etc.

In essence Test Cricket provides a linkage , and also a comparison of All
International Players who have played Test Cricket .

Contrary to what some people believe
Test Cricket aint going to die , the English love their History , They can
tell you all about the various places the Romans went to there .

The battle for the mythical " ASHES "
Between Australia & England will in my opinion ensure that Test Cricket
will be here forever .

openning 2016-12-24 19:52:53

Test cricket is dying in the region, one only has to look at the crowds to see who support it.
Less than 100 people watched the 4-day games, but the stand are sold out during the other formats.
People hate losers, and we have been losing for the last two decades.
No American television will buy a test series, to show to an American audience at the time, because it take too long to complete

T20 is rubbish. It was nice

is made up of hackers and cow lashers.

Well the title of your tread is a bit pointless.. test cricket IS the game. How could it be preventing its progression.

The East Indain population in NA is tuoghly 5M. In the USA 2.8 and expected to grow rapidly it has grown 69% in 10 years. The cricket watching population in the Windies is what 5M? Every Pak and Indian I know or hear seem to watch their cricket somehow or stay in touch. A 3M viewer number in NA would generate more revenue than 3M Windians by far for sponsors and cricket custodians.

Scar 2016-12-28 23:24:42

2.6M West Indian migrants. 700,000 Paks not a bad base.

Impressive!

I don't know if it's so much Test cricket that's stifling progression, as opposed to international cricket overall. It's the domestic T20 pro leagues that are garnering the new fans and the TV dollars.

Players from the Full Members especially the Big 3 are playing more matches than ever.
