Celebrities, drug use, and death...

Devin 2016-12-26 21:27:57

why is it that so many of them can't kick the addiction?

Does being a star eventually make you unable to relate to most people? Is it the pressure of always being in the spotlight/limelight? Do they get to a point where they no longer believe that people love them for who they are, but rather what they can provide?

I've always found it baffling that many celebrities continue to do hard drugs into their 50's and 60's. Many of them are lonely and depressed, I guess that's usually the contributing factor.

These celebs are part of the population, we know about their fate, because of who they were.
Drugs and alcohol affect a number of people, a MJ taking drugs is no different from my cousin, who wears four pants and 2-3 shirts daily, because of his previous drug used.
I know the public will want to discuss George Michaels, Prince and other Celebs death, but million more die from drugs.

That is exactly what I was going to say. Celebrities are people just like the rest of us. Some are Drug users, murderers, drunks, narcissists, idiots, etc.

It has a lot to do with affordability to access. A big part of their lifestyle is always being in the limelight and socialising so expensive hard drugs easily becomes part of the status quo...

So, are saying, celebrities use more drugs than the rest of the population, percentage wise?

Break it down by careers, or highest earning careers. Per capita, I would think that celebrities indulge and abuse drugs and alcohol far more frequently than people in other top paying jobs.

I'd say that drug use is rampant among celebrities.

Here is a list, not sure if it listed in order of most pervasive.

Bed time.

A lot of celebs seek reclusion to avoid paparazzi, fans and publicity. Over time they see nothing abnormal in their behavior. Living in isolation soon becomes depressive. Drugs and addiction takes hold and they become out of touch with reality. Inevitably isolation takes its toll.

Do you think you could perform night after night without drugs?

See Icarus.

The closer you get, the more u burn. Many instances, you simply crash and burn.

A story as old as man, not just modern day stars.

The very fuel that gives you wings bites your ass. Be it ego, ambition, blind drive.... not just hubris.

Celebrities are no different to the general population in terms of drugs use; it's just that they are famous and constantly in the public eyes that their problems are brought to our immediate attention.

Consider the heightened awareness of the overuse and increased in death of white Americans from abuse of and addiction to opioids. Congress is now involved and the issue was addressed with great concern during the presidential election. Now, consider the deep concern and the approach to such use compared to the approach of drug use among minorities, especially Afro-American, during the past 40 years. The so-call War on Drugs was the means, not of addressing the problem in any considerate and meaningful way, except to fill up the jails with black people.

Obama is trying to correct such discrepancies in the only and very limited way and means he has at his immediate disposal, with pardons

I guess we'll never know smile

In all honesty, if I were that successful I wouldn't let anyone ride me like a donkey and have me out there night after night.

The thing is, they aren't just taking the drugs to help them perform, they're taking it in their downtime as well.

I think most of them can't deal with the fact that at some point the lights will go out and they'll no longer have that shine.

How active were George Michael and Prince in recent times? As far as concerts, new music, traveling and promoting goes? They get addicted at a young age(maybe not Prince), and they can't/don't want to kick it.

I think POINT is right, everything gets magnified when you are a celebrity. NFL domestic abuses fall well below the National average but they are constantly in the news.

Celebrities are just as aware of the dangers of drugs, some take the risk, some don't. The differences may lie in the availability, amount and money to purchase it.
