The power structure feels threatened whenever any of its shenanigans are exposed and thus felt compelled to make an example of Manning – his prosecution and the extensive sentence was in a way; gratuitous……….that’s my take

You sound like a conspiracy theorist, the law is simple and severe for such offenses, regardless of how the Government obtained it. Manning was lucky not to get a life sentence and luckier to be pardoned.
