Pride vs Scorpions aka Bim vs Yard

analyst-kid 2017-02-17 12:09:25

To me a clash of approaches...the old fashioned WI approach to a one day match compared to the modern day appraoch.

Scorpions has the old time appoach...look for 4s and 6s and pound the bowlers into submission hence 434 against Red Force.

Pride has the modern day approach...try not to lose wickets...look for singles..scoring at 4-5 an over then accelerate in the last 15 overs hence the score of 314 against the Hurricanes.

But to score 434 requires powerhitting/bad bowling ...Scorpions has to avoid losing wickets and look to score at a run a ball and bludgeon the Pride attack as they did when they last met and scored 250+.
Bim has to avoid losing wickets and play their normal game.

I personally think Pride has the more disciplined batsmen...Scorpion batsmen ain bout scoring singles....if them can't pull off big shots its back in the dressing room.

Reasonable analysis (talking bout the entire post).

Only a pity you don't share VOR's reputation for goatmouthing excellence.

Draps you assume that Jamaica only look for boundaries. In that hammering against T&T, I watched a multitude of singles taken after boundaries were scored on the previous deliveries. The scorecard reflects 434 runs..278 in boundaries whilst the remaining 156 in runs, 22 yards at a time.

Pride has the modern day approach...try not to lose wickets...look for singles..scoring at 4-5 an over then accelerate in the last 15 overs hence the score of 314 against the Hurricanes.

I will argue that the aforementioned, with very little variation, is the blueprint for the building of a productive limited overs innings...here in the Caribbean and beyond. But if the bowling is terrible, as it was on Wednesday, scores over 350 are not uncommon.

No one is expecting Jamaica to post anything in the neighborhood of 434 against Barbados...in fact 300 would be an acceptable score, one which will be filled with lots of running between the wickets.

The two best teams ... for sure.

Although we have our individual national teams we are cheering for ...what I secretly hope pardon the pun is that we develop batsmen that can hold an innings together and batsmen who can score like how the Scorpions did against the Red Force at the ODI level!

I hope I am not wrong but I think Scorpions beating Red Force like they did is a pivotal shift in our List A cricket. Red Force had been dominant for a while and that humiliating defeat could be signs of change.

Barbados scored over 280 three times and over 300 twice...that is 5 times over 275 ..a standard that the WI HAS TO SET AT INT'L LEVEL.

.PRIOR to this season the par score was 250
in the List A tournament with teams struggling to get past 200.

The concern I have are the matches against Jamaica.
We stumble in both matches to score over 200 runs, we must chase well, by having good partnerships or bat Jamaica out of the tournament by scoring over 290 runs.

Didn't follow the games, but I noticed the team that bat first won. Did the pitch play different under light?

I think this tournament has shown a combination of two things:

1. Chasing under the lights is harder.
2.WI teams are not mentally tough at chasing in one days.

IN a finals its always better to set a score and let the opposition chase so the development of this art of chasing would have to wait.

Barbados struggled chasing Jamaica's scores on the two occasions they met...would you say Jamaica has the strongest bowling in the tournament or rather the best opening bowling pair of Taylor and Leveridge?

In the two encounters the Scorpions have gone after the Pride fast bowlers but were restricted at scoring against the spinners.

In the first encounter they went after Roach, Holder and Carlos but lost 7 wickets in the process...Benn was untouchable...in the second encounter they got away against Cummins and Holder...in 15 overs they scored 95 but after the introduction of the spinners they were restricted to 250+

So both teams ideally have problems in scoring against one another losing wickets always in the process.

I just watched all ten of his overs and his action looks okay.

I haven't yet seen a single delivery i would call.

It seems Thomas is injured according to Barry.
