There's a standing thought, that the majority of Americans are 6 meals away from chaos. Less so in the rural areas.

Storms pose a risk to food, fuel distribution lines.

The media play a role in creating a state of semi-panic.

I just have to laugh at you all sometimes. What catastrophe could hit the US that would cause Americans to starve yet spare the caribbean and others?
you all act like America is just the East coast! The caribbean is a million times more vulnerable to starvation and chaos than "americans"! Yes there is excessive demand in large cities for food not produced locally. But unlike Islands that depend on airplanes and ships to bring in the majority of their foodstuffs, all you need in the US are four wheels!

I know we love to wax nostalgic over our youth and the great variety of local foods we enjoyed...but i have been through hurricanes and seen food sources devastated on an island wide scale!
That is unheard of in the US! New Orleans was devastated, yet most of Louisiana was fine! Much less the US!

you all underestimate how large the US is, the road network and skill of people.
Plus, you know who suffers most when disasters hit large cities? Immigrants! Most whites in large cities hav e roots in the Midwest and other small towns where they can return to!
You all underestimate the amount of food that is produced in the us...please...you would be surprised how resilient this country can be when you remove the excess that people consume because of purchasing power.

People think America is a wasteland with corn the only thing mass produced. You can put all the caribbean islands together and add Guyana in there and not come within a thousand times the food produced in America!
most disasters in the US are very localised where you can jump in a car and drive one hour and be completely free of the effects!
Problem is that people in the US are spoiled and cry murder when theysuffer the slightest inconvenience!

Ayenmol 2017-03-13 23:37:15

The US is top 5 in just about every important, versatile crop produced on earth! R ice is the only mass consumed crop that the US lags in.
But they got soy to compensate....and whereas the countries that eclipse the US in food production populations number in the billions, the us has less than a fourth the people!

Could not have said it better myself.

Case in point: Homestead, Florida, 1994 - Hurricane Andrew.
That place was devastated beyond repair. Yet there were several states who were not even aware of what had happened.

A look at Homestead today and there are no signs of what this Hurricane did to that community.

This country is very resilient despite their complaining about every little thing and taking things for granted

Yes he does! But not in this way. Land is Land and what the land produces it produces. God is not the one causing mankind's suffering. Nor is he responsible for economic prosperity of countries today.

Am not crowning the US as some blessed Land etc. But just stating the facts. Don't let ignorance of the masses lead you. The US as a land has an abundance of resources and has benefited from numerous talented people in maximising these resources!

A shift in energy source away from Oil would be a huge issue but that would impact many countries much larger than the Islands we call home long before it does the US!

Corn production alone utilizes Land in the US thirty times the acreage of Jamaica!

Ayenmol explained it concisely.

Are Americans afraid of starvation
when they hear snow coming??? lol lol
I think it's more a reaction from the general-population when they hear a storm coming cause many people (I know) go out to eat everyday.

Therefore, they want to make sure they fully gas up their cars and go buy some food stuff and stock up for a few days, just in case (floods, gas shortage, etc).

People mostly make it out to be a joke and say things like, for e.x, my rich co-worker was saying to me & another co-worker, the day before the storm, that "I told my husband to make sure he he gets his priority straight and get enough wine."

The 2 of us listening, laughed. And I thought, this chick and her husband will kick back, relax, and drink wine while they have some Mexican shovel their snow, while most of us go out there and bruk we backside in the snow. hahaha.

Funny thing tho, I look forward to the brief, physical exercise. I'm tired sitting down for more than half-day of the regular work-day. (8 hrs desk-work, 2 hrs traffic --fun driving stick-shift, however, & another 2 hrs watching tv).

All in all... people generally overreact when it comes to an impending storm, but why the heck not eat, drink, and get frisky when you're stuck inside...... lol lol lol lol

Stick a pin in it guys.

I agree with everything you said, but starvation/lack of is not only linked to ability to produce goods. It's the ability to AFFORD food.

Ray is talking about snow - which with all due respect is shite - the real socio-economic starvation flash point is Trumps budget cutting subsides to social programs.

Meals on Wheels is a classic example. But all "social welfare" programs that Trump unapologetic has cut, leaves millions of Americans perilously close to starvation.

So yes AMERICANS are afraid of starvation, but not for the lame ass reasons of "when they hear snow coming???"

Is that not a global concern? This Political phenomenon you describe is a different topic altogether. It highlights the gap between governments today who claim to serve the people but cater to the rich few.

So yes, Americans are afraid of starvation, and so are the rest of the Worlds population who are three meals away from bare dining tables.

That is a reality though for millions of Americans and hundreds of millions around the World.

It is well reported that the World produces enough food to feed it's people many times over. Why are people starving? Greed! Politics! Fear! Hate!

Man is causing the issues. No one can dispute that...will that ever change?

Decades of brainwashing Americans about socialism being "evil" has led to this point where a man like Trump, who was born with a silver spoon up his ass and never experienced real hunger much less economic hardship, can by the stroke of a pen take away so many social programs desperately needed by poor and working class people.

But they voted for him, it's high time they learn the hard way.
