As they say, "Better late than never!"
Is the Brian Lara Stadium going to be the "New Mecca",looks like it could be.
BRAVO!!
In reply to granite
It belongs to the Government and will be available for either free to WICB or considerably less fees than QPO.
It seems the previous government was hellbent on leaving "de Brian Lara" as derelict as one could find.

which country producing oil is making money ?
Most are in trouble with budgets. T&T problem is delivering LNG
The plants in T&T are being mothballed, ya see since 2010 the
government should have had companies open up some new gas fields.
It has cost the govt over US 2 billon in lost revenues since 2010.
They are now doing it so we have gas shortages. Oil is about 100,000 barrels
per day at its peak. Its has dropped off .
Lack of foresight the Energy ministry since 2010, is now putting an onus of developing oil fields.
A rival to QPO is that good?

No it is not....there is little international cricket in Trinidad. And a stadium to compete for free will only destroy the QPCC oval.
I interviewed the then minister of sport ( Roger Boynes) on the morning edition (TV6) in 2007 and he was adamant it was NOT to compete with QPCC but was to be an academy for development of professional cricketers...I did ask why does an academy need 20,000 seats?
Ten years on nobody needs this white elephant except to satisfy the hubris of politicians who cannot supply water, healthcare or security to their citizens.

Wrong
Its been more than 2 decades since T&T moved from an oil based economy to a gas based one and yet some of you still ask questions about the price of oil
Trinidad govt revenue fell over 25% in the first quarter alone ...prices,production shortfalls and increased cost of production of gas and petrochemicals as well as oil.

Well, well said and very true.
From Day 1, Patrick Manning and his corrupt team started this not for the love of cricket but something else.
Trinidad and the WI have a few international matches, so I don't know how it can even generate revenue for basic maintenance.
Instead of this stadium, the govt should have assisted every community in Trinidad with proper facilities- so many communities don't have a half decent place to play and practice cricket- the grass-roots where cricket is made.
Manning was obsessed with bright lights and tall building, a development malaise that failed Latin America in the 80's.
The Tax payers will now have another money sucking venture to maintain.

I'm making the assumption that you're a card carrying member of the Queens Park Cricket Club, and a further assumption that the QPO is owned by the organization of which you're a card carrying member.
Am I correct?
10 years after his retirement..never too late..
