given another run some time ago, would he have deeloped into a dependable opening batsman for the West Indies? I cannot but wonder, how is it he constantly scores for the Windwards but.. but.. but.. How old is he anyway? On the other hand, I remember some others who did just that but never took advantange of their second chance. Stewart Williams comes to mind. VOR what do you say?

I meant developed. Not a good typer but that is a very interesting interpretation you have given.

too busy beating off to Devon's past knocks. Can you believe the jackass about picking the useless guy? Devon Smith was NEVER and will NEVER be a Test standard player.
Since Larr aint here I will say his inevitable next post whenever people bring up the endless chances Devon got.
So nobody else who has debuted in the past 10-15 years also came into a crap team environment? Or was there some conspiracy against Devon?

The fact that Smith annually intersperses 2 regional FC centuries amongst some otherwise ordinary batting performances isn't a shock to anyone.
The fact that he's only managed 1 century and averages 25 in 67 test innings is hard to ignore.
If were going to have a 25 average from an opener, let's have one from a player who's young and trending up.

Sounds like you are one of the alternative facters. Devon Smith is a champion regional player in the ilk of Stuart Williams and Carl Hooper. He currently averages 41.82 after 212 innings playing for the Windwards. He has had a terrible season this year by his standards where before this game he averaged only 25.88 but last season he averaged 45.88 and the one before that 47.93. Scoring runs at this level is not his problem but it is at the other level where he has struggled.
Unfortunately he has not done enough to warrant another run as it appears that he has struggled this season and maybe at the back end of his career. I might be wrong but I realize that he is struggling against the quicks, the type of bowling that he used to murder in his prime.
Then Hafeez opening the bowling

Then Hafeez the pelter opening the bowling
If Smith can score another hundred then he would be back in contention for selection
stuart williams was very good batsman at regional cricket
In reply to Larr Pullo
