WE have one superstar...and that is Chris Gayle. One lynchpin worldclass T20 PLAYER in Marlon Samuels and then a whole heap of hit or miss power hitters with the lower order all awesome finishers.

Anytime Gayle and Samuels are out cheap, the side in trouble battingwise. Yesterday at Kensington once Samuels was hard done and dismissed cheaply, the die was cast.

We need to rebuild because Gayle and Samuels will not be around for too long. For now Lewis/Walton looks like a good opening partnership which we need but this is early days yet.

analyst-kid 2017-03-27 04:33:03

Our formula has done well for us....load the team with powerhitters...the collective average minus Charles and Fletcher is 184...subtract Gayle and Samuels and we fail to post a competitive score.

analyst-kid 2017-03-27 04:42:43

I am arguing for Carter and JMO soon in this line-up....we need guys who can avg 25+ with a 100+ strike rate.

Bump

DIEHARD 2017-03-27 09:47:07

Our Team - minus Gayle, Bravo, Sammy and Russell..is missing a helluva lot

When they come back and get beaten like the last lot you called for what will you do? Call for Lara and Viv and Sobers?

DIEHARD 2017-03-27 10:09:52

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

Dude, chill, our T-20 team does not get routinely beaten with those players FACT, this isn't ODI or Test cricket, why are y'all so disingenuous?

Interesting stat, WI T-20 win loss record with the 4 players I mentioned 39 - 37

Where Sammy is skipper 27 -17, I don't think you will find a better W/L ratio using any parameter that covers more than 10 games in any format for WI in the last 25 years

*edit* I did find another parameter that returns better W-L results, Sammy as skipper with Gayle in the team 19W-8L, both missing from this current squad.

The WICB had stumbled upon something that worked

So Scammy is the main cause of us winning?

WOW.

The mentality of the posters here.

Facking amazing.

rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

A Psychology researcher could really write some serious
articles by studying the brains (or lack thereof) here.

FACKING AMAZING. CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP.

Truth be told.

People are hurting by the poor performances of the past two decades.

As a result, they are spewing shite but don't even know.

Funny as hell. I thought all Sammy contributed was to spin the toss. Now things have taken a turn where the wins were achieved from all of the intangibles and his leadership skills. If one is fortunate to live long enough, you can indeed hear everything.

DIEHARD 2017-03-27 11:14:24

In reply to NYCGURU

Y'all people act like its the same people saying conflicting things.

If one poster says Sammy only good enough to win a toss.

And somebody else says WI enjoyed their best T-20 results while Sammy is skipper, and since he was removed as skipper,WI have only won 1 in 6 T-20 games.

I fail to see the incongruity in that.

Different posters..saying different things..at different points in time, with the benefit of hindsight.

I have been consistent in saying, no pro sports organization removes their championship winning captain & coach, immediately after winning a trophy.

That reeks of vindtiveness and no product of such an organization can bear good fruit.

That being said, people still want to see sensible selections that looks like a team trying to find winning solutions/ combinations, rather than selecting players based on it just being "their" time, and persisiting with non producers, while others with potential or better results/ form sit on the sidelines.

Use rational thought, logic and common sense for one minute.

Sammy was your leader in a world cup competition with a group of men who were motivated by his leadership skills. A group of men he became familiar with. He won you the cup.

Ask yourself two questions?
1: Was that win a fluke?
2: Was that win because of Sammy's leadership skills and motivational abilities?

After answering those two questions, move forward to the Pakistan T20 league where Sammy is given a team with a group of men he is unfamiliar with in a totally unfamiliar environment to lead. According to the owner of the team, he gave Sammy the reins to lead and win it all for him and the fans.

At the end of the competition Mr.Sammy delivered.

Now ask yourself the two questions put forward earlier and come up with a logical answer, if you are a person capable of rational thought, logic and common sense.

I'm thinking we giving NYCGURU too much credit.

He is yet to display logical rational thought.

He'd rather continue to point out how there is more than one POV on this message board.

Like..surprise surprise, is more than one person posting, you going to have people saying contradictory things. lol lol

FuzzyWuzzy 2017-03-27 12:42:51

In reply to DIEHARD

Sammy was indeed a great motivator but he allowed others to goad/encourage him to take on the very organisation that, according to most, made him captain when he didn't deserve a playing spot.

Unfortunately he paid the price time to move on.

DIEHARD 2017-03-27 12:49:49

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

Fine, we moving on.

But don't tell the lie that the results would be no different, I repeat, this is not our ODI or Test team, where we have been losing for decades, in spite of the combination of players selected or the captain, and even that is debatable, as Gayle as Test captain was a winner..anyways, I digress.

Our T-20 team is a winning, a world champion winning one, and we suddenly can't win more than 1 game in our last six, and looking like it will be one game won in 9.

Don't be dishonest as to what could cause that, look at the difference in composition in the championship teams and this one, 2 BIG differences, Gayle & Sammy

FuzzyWuzzy 2017-03-27 13:45:04

In reply to DIEHARD

Why Gayle isn't playing?

DIEHARD 2017-03-27 14:11:53

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

I'm unsure.

As far as I know he just wasn't selected. I cant remember hearing of any current injuries or surgery.
