Cameron's Reward for Poor Performance of Team

He was reelected unopposed for another two year term while the top players continue to languish in the wilderness seeking fortune, appreciation and recognition in far off lands.

Once these current new players make it to the top, they too will be treated like today's stars and that vicious cycle will continue.

Meanwhile, the territory boards and the WICBC "executives" will continue to reap fat and secret pay checks from the sweat and blood of the players. Fans will continue to stay away from games, media will devote two paragraphs of the days play, and the stadiums will continue to be empty.

Then soon, the kids would not know what cricket is and like that bright young man in Jamaica who I met last year during my visit, will not know about Michael Holding- could not even recognize his name, names like Vivian Richards, Brian Lara and Gary Sobers will be unknown to the masses in the region.

I would think that prior to Cameron those same players that you refer too decided that West Indies cricket would take second place to the contract offered by the IPL etc. Now listen the current players if they make it to the top will only leave if the board is not prepared to conpensate to reflect what they are doing. now the only way they should be conpensated is if they are performing consistantly. If not and they go to the IPl etc the pirates of the caribbean spring to mind.

the players that you are currently referring to in the wilderness did one of them not tell the great Gary Sobers this is my time?

Please wake up smell this coffee

I don't understand where these Cameron apologists find the illogic to blame the players. If you had to pick between a paycheck of $250,000 and $2,000, knowing that your earning career is going to be less than 10 years, which one would you pick? Don't tell me you think the players should forego their T20 paydays and play in some crappy domestic tournament for pennies on the dollar. Its not like the players opted out of international fixtures. WICB treats their players as if they are indentured servants, and expects them to fall in line. Its no surprise that as soon as the players get an opportunity to break free of the noose and are not reliant on WICB for their bread, they try and maiximize those opportunities. Look at how the NZ board deals with similar problems - small population, small budget for player salaries - they take their players' needs and wishes into account and ensure that scheduling conflicts between foreign earning opportunities and domestic commitments are minimized. That's what the WICB needs to do.

Not to get racial about it, but it seems like both sides in this dispute would rather get into d**k measuring contest about who's the "man" and make the issue about "respect" rather than work through disputes and conflicts in a logical way for mutual benefit as well as the fans and the game's future in the Caribbean.

WICB should not only allow players to ply their trade in IPL and other lucrative T20 tournaments but also set up a schedule for individual players to play both for IPL and WI. Thus utilizing this agreement as a part of their compensation package since WICB is currently unable to match any professional T20 compensation package.

Again WICB has continued to generate income for both themselves and players by their reluctance to regularly provide the cricket-starved lucrative North American market with quality matches, in major cities like: South Florida; New York; Toronto and even Atlanta. This could be utilized to provide both WI senior and A team with much needed international experience and income. I could see our current A team competing well there, especially if many players from the recent President XI team are selected for A team duties.

So who will play the domestic competitions and why? Since the places on the international fixtures will be reserved for the $250,000 fellas who get to enjoy the best of both worlds...

Well based on our performances in the last 10 years or so do you think any of the so called teams that we play against not dictate the times that they want to play us? IE England now for a number of years have played us just before they play someone like Aus or India using as as batting practice. So when you claim they dont try to organise outside of all these T20 formats when will they want to play? One of the old players who was the captain of the team turned up late for a test series in England because he had 2 games left in the IPL and could nto even be there to train with his team.

So now looking at the situation we are in if we hold the pride that everyone thinks we have why don't these players arrange with the T20 leagues. Like other players from other countries do to leave when country needs them?
