The method behind Sunil Narine's madness

Originally bursting onto the international scene as a mystery spinner, the Trinidadian is now riddling opponents with the bat in his opening gambit for Kolkata Knight Riders

Knight Riders, however, tread a different path and the promotion went to a rather unlikely candidate: Sunil Narine. It wasn't entirely surprising, given Narine had opened for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League earlier this year. Besides, his batting credentials had already received a significant boost in the Pakistan Super League where his 116 runs in eight matches came at a strike rate of 181. Even so, Narine was seen as nothing more than a pinch-hitter when he was pushed to the top of the Knight Riders order.

Cappo Gambhir dropped himself down the order...result....record breaking opening partnership between Philip and Flyn...dem not going to drop Philip down the order this season...the man seeing it big and hitting it well.

Think he did that because rain was in the air and he wanted to make sure they were ahead of the D/L.

But look what happened, he should stick with that pair and come in #3.

Not only did Narine strike them big and clean, he did so with a calm head, terrific balance and impeccable timing. There was a certain insouciance in his strokeplay, as if he always knew he could bat like a proper top-order player.

Narine is hitting the ball as clean with consummate ease as I've ever seen!

This should be a lesson to all young West Indian batsmen, that you don't have to slug and lose your shape to be effective in T20! Well done Sunil!
