I saw it. I am a bit disappointed figured he would show a bit more about Carnival, pitch lake
how industrial we are Point Lisas etc..........
Bits and pieces video.
At least it gives people an idea about T&T.
In reply to sgtdjones
Yeah true but they only has 40 odd mins so not too bad considering,he did make mention about those things though....
I loved the pan music arrangement breakdown..
Starting CNN at 9.00 pm tonite
In reply to bravos
Is you write dis long apology?
In reply to Maispwi
Man only had 42 mins.....and relevant international media have had documentaries on many aspects of T&T sport,as they have when the discussion was about drugs/crime etc...who knows maybe they should've spliced in sports and bake and shark somewhere..even then many others positive aspects of T&T would still be left out with the time allotted.
Who say Part 2!?
Expected more on the culinary side. Think too much of the street foods and the various ethnic fusions were left out. And no wild meat?
Funniest line --
Granny: "Mohammed...doan bad-talk me"
A few observations:
1 - De Sabga/Aboud fella and his continued use of "They"....
2 - Carib well get some high profile exposure.....Stag get a small bligh in Phase II panyard
3 - Phase II (my band) get all de "love" and exposure.....yet...it have more successful Panorama bands like All Stars, Renegades, and Despers. I suspect Hadco have someting to do with that
4 - I liked the segment with the Mohammed fella....with the interaction with his granny....and the convo with Bourdain. It was scripted (IMO) with the aspect of narcoticization of the people through the "fete" culture and Mohammed trying to explain why his father participated in the 1990 coup. He biased of course but some truths in there.
5 - The river lime was cool and somewhat authentic....with an element of denial of harmony etc in place
6 - Nice segment with Calypso Rose but way too short on Tobago IMO.
7 - Was pleasantly surprised by, and appreciated the jab jab/stick fighting segment. An aspect of the culture often neglected and ignored. Stick fighting in particular is BRUTAL. Nuff buss head involved in that.
8 - All in all...Bourdain had to try and fit an entire culture into 45 minutes and it's not possible to cover everything. For example...no mention of the Chinese influence in the Trinidad culinary experience. It's way more than that of the Syrian and Lebanese culinary influence for example and it supposed to be a culinary show. I guess Bourdain in that segment was more highlighting the Syrian/Lebanese economic influence in T&T and the culinary side of things was more of an aside.
I will venture to say that the average Trinbagonian eh know bout raw kibbi, muhamarra and dem ting so. Looks like the Syrian/Lebanese "TriniDADEians" keep their food to themselves.
That said, yuh cyah please everybody and the areas that were highlighted were mostly on point and relevant.
He said Trini has the best food in the Caribbean.
In reply to bravos
He did not do Richards bake n shark? Who really produced n planned his show?
In reply to Runs
Maybe cuz there's no shark in Trini bake and shark
In reply to Runs
Yeah shoulda bin longer...Maracas alone woulda take up a segment..
In reply to Da-Vincy

The Syrian segment really rubbed me the wrong way
The foolish woman asking Bourdain if he know about typical ME fare
The assertion of smallest and most powerful
Also the 'they' speech
I cringed to think about the future
In reply to Halliwell
Yup.....same here
Man bawl they call me the starbucks of the caribbean and a nex man nervously roll he eye yes....
No forkane shame!
In reply to imusic
Yeah that man look terrified facepalm level 1000,he know how easy they can lose that sheen, and you know the kind of ambitious bad men we have here, all it take is one of their relatives to get fired or sumn as trivial as that and Sabga Aboud better off in Syria...but like he said he's a Trini and he's sorry,so I believe he'll get a bligh...bad man does take apology in T&T.."is ah cool scene" ..lol they must have been terrified thinking about the repercussions and possibilities after such a statement especially in these hard times...lol what a cock..
In reply to bravos
Brisk apology
I must say, the potential damage must have been highlighted to them sharpish!
In reply to Halliwell
Trinis forget in seven days and business as usual...no boycott nutten....if this was Jamaica, it wouldah been Badman nah nyam Marios Pizza.
Nah...I watch the clip....anybody taking issue with that have some real hang-ups oui....
I ain't know what "most powerful" means? What measure? influence over laws and policy?
Or just the most economic clout...don't know...don't care...
The woman did say Trinidad is their home and has been good to them...
It's the elite enjoying their success as perceived by them...
Natural for us to envy them...
life goes on...
In reply to DAVE400
Who envy dem,not me for sure,I admire good business and I applauded the lady's remark..and know she's sincere, but Mario was a cock that's all...and the facepalm by his cousin and "MaRiooooo WTF"??!! by a lady in the background spoke volumes..there's no need to analyze it,he goofed..
They know what could happen here and they know 'power' comes in many forms and colours..what use is money and power if you can't enjoy it freely at home, and so far they've done well in that department and if we want to analyze it,they've thrived because of humility, harmony and acceptance by the majorities..
Don't think for one moment that bank balance alone trumps all that.
And wrt to boycott,I don't see that as being necessary or realistic...but I see other possible and very dark realities with the original stance.
Also the 10 day mentality don't apply here,Trinis have good memories for these things and just need a slight trigger or 'justification' to act upon them. "Or so allyuh is de most powerful arrite" Yuh know Trini could tote that and that could lead to a psyche change in the harmony, like a case of 'us and them',very dangerous and I'm glad he apologized, for his and TT's harmony's sake.
But man they do great business and I wish them well.
In reply to Halliwell
Yeah man they know how good they've had it across the board and know happiness is more than just money in the bank and assets..vulnerable assets to boot..
The last thing they want is a Syrian Boogey man..and pal T&T have characters that would make it their lifes work to show them they not so powerful..trust me I know the characters..
"so allyuh is de most powerful"?? "Arrite"
Glad he apologized, shows humility and that's how they have always been..held their corners and held their tongues..
In reply to Halliwell
The Bourdain show did what many in Trinidad couldn't do"
1. Highlight the clan of the "most powerful" group and their economic might.
2. Trevor Sudama highlighted two weeks ago how they have followed ac plan of non assimilation and inter marriage among the small group is planned. But few peeps in Trinidad took note.
3. Those who married outside, like the parents of Philip Alexander, are shunned.
4. Their draining of foreign exchange to pay foreign junk food franchise much to the detriment of the nation.
5. The recent influx of Syrians into Trinidad and their almost immediate ability to make it big economically requires an investigation- who got them here and how did they apply for immigration status?
This show will hopefully open their eyes and thus begin the process of full assimilation.
In reply to bravos
what does any apology accomplish...nothing really. the act, deed or words have already the perpetrated or spoken. people do and say exactly what they intend to do or say.

Prestige own KFC...half/syrian half french-creole.
That was vicious.
Before Bourdain had dinner with those folks, he'd already established that where they were living was basically for the 1%.
There was no need for the Syrian to run his mouth to Bourdain, but he couldn't help himself from letting Anthony know that his family were bigshots. Being humble ain't easy.
I've read a lot of interesting remarks about that family on Facebook. I don't know the story so I can't comment, but apparently many folks seem to hold them partially responsible for a lot of the gun violence in Trinidad, amongst other criminal activities.
