is what allowed him to become President.
No, it was not a requirement but no candidate was bold enough to refuse to do something that was traditionally, done. Trump's refusal to release his taxes, along with other crazy behavior, has made a mockery of the process. It's not a coincidence, that the first person, who refused to follow this tradition is on the same path as Richard M Nixon. Donald Trump would have been forced to exit the Presidential race, because the media would have scrutinized his returns and save the Country from this idiot.
I hope this is a lesson to all in Congress, they have to make it a requirement, that all candidates release their tax returns. If this is not the case, another Trumplike figure could be lurking around the corner, next election.

Releasing of tax information stops Trump-like figures?

How about don't elect a pussy grabbing xenophobic moron.
True, but that was later in the process, (pussy grabbing audio) after he had gained a significant following.

Jimmy Swaggert had a significant following until he was busted with a prostitute.
You can and should lose your following. He should have never had that many white women vote for him given how much of a pig he is.

Well, it was pussy grabbing or millions of jobs returning from overseas. His supporters were highly skeptical of the charges, they saw it as an attempt to smear him.

Never look past red flags. And with Trump there were more red flags than Trini Carnival.

His supporters are deplorables, remember?
Confirmation bias plays a big role, their skepticisms are reinforced by fox news and talk radio.
