Sobers, Lara or Bolt?

ray 2017-09-04 19:42:17

Biggest worldwide impact...Bolt

Priapus 2017-09-04 20:39:54

In reply to ray

Should it be held against Sobers and Lara that cricket is played primarily in the Commonwealth?

Khaga 2017-09-04 21:14:25

Gayle,the self styled WorldBoss..

Bolt is great eh I mean he's the greatest sprinter ever, but everything's over in less than 10 secs ffs, there's no way Bolt and Lara can be compared..

Anyone who tells me they prefer to go to a stadium and watch a blitzkrieging bolt race than a blistering Lara Innings damn lie....

Of course he's the greatest but how much thrills can one really get from watching a man run for 10 seconds or less? Some great patriotic euphoria is I suppose..

Some may say, that is what made him great. It's pretty remarkable to be able to dominate a sport that has little room for error.

I agree, it would be pointless to pay to watch 10 seconds of sprinting, they pay to go see all the events. It would also be pointless to pay to only watch Sobers because he didn't always have a good game.

ray 2017-09-05 08:14:16

In reply to bravos

the question is who is the greatest sports figure....not who you like to watch lol

If it's who yuh like to watch...my choice would be Kanhai

doosra 2017-09-05 08:22:01

Bolt for sure

In comparison to the history of the sport bravos. You cannot be serious.

bravos 2017-09-05 09:38:08

In reply to nick2020

What you mean? In comparison to the history of the sport?

I already said Bolt is the undisputed greatest track sprinter in history,by a distance too.

I'm just saying they cannot be compared,it will always be greatest in their respective fields..

And if you want to diminish the value of the commonwealth remember it makes up a significant part of the world's population too,so its still boils down to a matter of preference..

problemjay 2017-09-05 09:43:30

Stupid question, Bolt is one of the greatest athletes of all time. He is mentioned with the greats like Ali, Jordan and Pele. No other West Indian have that impact nd dominated in their sport on that level.

problemjay 2017-09-05 09:43:55

bravos showing his immaturity again twisted

seaegg99 2017-09-05 09:44:57

Bolt worldwide. Cricket it is Sobers. Lara is a wonderful batsman but Sobers ruled all of cricket. They were always questions in Lara's time about who was the best. Bolt and Sobers didn't have such questions.

problemjay 2017-09-05 09:47:48

^^ Walk around the world and ask about Sobers, how many people would know? twisted

Now ask about Bolt smile

Do not mention them in the same sentence. Allyuh old men this make me laugh yes lol

black 2017-09-05 11:04:08

In reply to problemjay

Point well taken about name recognition, some athletes are considered great even though they don't have name recognition.

Cuban boxer Stevenson was considered one of the greatest, even though he didn't have name recognition.

googley 2017-09-05 12:33:03

Bolt by a mile!

johndom90 2017-09-05 12:37:33

Bolt by a flash... only a few Caribbean personalities above Bolt in
terms of global Appeal, not just sport...and one of the few is Bob.

I'm trying to think of any other
cool

problemjay 2017-09-05 12:49:53

In reply to johndom90

If you going to speak about Caribbean personalities and not just athletes then there is a number of entertainers who have massive global impact. You will have to factor in Pop superstar Rihanna for example.

Anyway we talking about Sports stay on topic

johndom90 2017-09-05 12:57:50

In reply to problemjay

In Sport...my vote is Bolt...all the way.

Other sporting figures to compare include..Sobers, Viv, lara, Juantorena,.
A short list.

I'm just adding that he has transcended sport.

Eg..Rihanna may have more money, assets (no pun), but
is she more recognizable than bolt...worldwide?

nick2020 2017-09-05 13:01:48

In reply to bravos

Lara is not even considered the greatest cricketer of all time bravos further less greatest West Indian cricketer.

problemjay 2017-09-05 13:05:09

In reply to johndom90

Yes dude Rihanna is more recognize than Bolt.

A successful Pop star with sex appeal will beat a sporting icon anywhere in the world in this day and age

black 2017-09-05 13:18:19

In reply to problemjay

In Western Countries yes. Rihanna might not be well known in conservative Islamic Countries.

johndom90 2017-09-05 13:45:16

In reply to black

If Bolt and rihanna walk down the road, one on each side...no entourage...It would be interesting
who would get most visible recognition.

Its sort of like Muhammad Ali and Diana Ross... both recognizable, but who would have the visual advantage?

black 2017-09-05 14:05:14

In reply to johndom90

Mohammad Ali.

He was probably the most recognizable face on the planet.

pelon 2017-09-05 14:20:21

Athlete: Bolt
Fame: Rhianna over Bolt (but not Bob), by a narrow margin due to the fact that many more people are music fans than track fans.... both RiRi and Bolt have transcended their profession though

johndom90 2017-09-05 14:22:00

both RiRi and Bolt have transcended their profession though In reply to pelon

very True...

frome these little specks of dust

bravos 2017-09-05 16:36:06

In reply to nick2020

Listen padna my comments went beyond the simplicity of the question, any fool knows that Bolt would be more recognizable, but the point is millions and millions would disagree on 'greatest sportsman' simply because their sporting appetite would require much more than 9 seconds to be satisfied and don't see short sprints as the epitome of sports greatness.

The same outside limitations that would limit Lara or anyone else is the same that would limit Bolt...

And pal after you and I are gone Lara would be remembered for his numerous record breaking achievements under pressure,I can only think of one man that can be compared to Lara in that regard and that's Ali,isn't Ali the greatest? His record isn't statistically the best, but he's regarded as the greatest because of factors and feats that require more than 10 seconds to achieve..

I repeat Bolt is the greatest sprinter ever, but sprints are too short for him to be the greatest sportsman....that's total inconsideration...

And you out of place to suggest that Lara isn't considered the greatest,of course he is by many...tell me how Sobers,Richards etc greater than Lara,is it stats? Nope, what is it then?? Or hor..

Nick you light bad boy.

bravos 2017-09-05 16:38:07

In reply to problemjay

Listen nah one speed brain,my comments and opinions stand, maybe you should read them over and get off your self high...

this is a discussion and discussions evolve...

Let nick tell me if Viv OR Sobers were greater batsmen than Lara and tell me how he arrive at that..

Allyuh sorf bad...

Dude, you are framing the debate to suit your own argument. Track and field is more than just a few seconds of entertainment, it about national pride and bragging rights. It's about being able to say, your country has the fastest man in the world.

We are all cricket fans here, but can you honestly say that a test match generates as much excitement as the Olympics?

And, if T&F is just a few seconds of entertainment, then why is it more popular than cricket?

imusic 2017-09-05 18:43:08

Bolt

Maybe we need to check their following on Facebook and Twitter. lol

Kay 2017-09-06 11:47:25

Bolt by some distance. ...

What is unique about them is that sprinters have to concentrate on style of opponents, their kick off the blocks, coordinating muscle and brain power and construct the perfect start to finish of 100 metres in just 10 seconds. .... facting remarkable.

There is not an iota of any margin for error so if the race is not flawless crapaud smoke dem pipe smile

black 2017-09-06 12:12:44

Exactly.

I tried to tell Bravos the same thing.

Bolt is the greatest sprinter ever.

Lara is N O T even the greatest cricketer ever. So he has records what is your point.

Light? Go on record. Are you saying Lara is the greatest cricketer ever?

buds 2017-09-06 17:40:23

Must be that..Why Rhianna is even mentioned as a good artist is ridiculous..What instrument she play; Can she sing? Bump n Grind I guess..

When her career is finished she will have the most number one hits in history.

Bump!!!

pelon 2017-09-07 11:46:30

In reply to che

Agree, except RiRi is on "watch" for long term fame, were as Nesta and Castro are immortals.

RiRi's fame is "pop" music - which can be fickle/shaky long term. Bob had a universal message and Bolt has a legacy that will survive decades in sports.
